How to desert-proof my G1X.II ?

My daughter's going to the UAE in a couple of weeks and would like to take my G1X.II. Other than leaving the camera at home, is there a way to protect it from dust, or certain things to avoid doing with it? I suppose the lens is drawing in some air every time it is extending?

You can see if you can find a "Waterproof Case" that will work with the G1X II (e.g., HERE), or consider getting one of the "rugged/ waterproof" type cameras (e.g., HERE).

Curious as to what were you thinking of that would "desert-proof" the camera?

Whatever debris that collects on the lens during use will be carried into the camera while zooming; turning camera off.

And as you mentioned whenever (zoomed/ powered on) lens "drawing in some air every time it is extending" and dust on the lens will be drawn into the lens/ camera.

Personally if I cared for the camera, I would not take any camera that did not nave good environmental sealing into dusty/ sandy conditions.

Even with environmental sealing (dust/ moisture), sand getting into a telescoping type lens will probably cause problems.

In such conditions I would a zoom lens that had internal zoom and focus.

Good Luck!

Could a mobile phone camera suit your needs?

If I already knew the ideal solution, I wouldn't have needed to ask

Good Luck!

Thanks.

Not really, but on the days with noticeable dust in the air that's probably going to be the best option.

My inquiry was in regards to your reply which I quoted in my reply:
"Not really what I was looking for, but thanks for responding"
would 'infer' you had some thoughts on some possibilities, hence why asking.
