x-e2 upgrade

Hi,

I have been using x-e2 for several years and I would like to upgrade a bit. I use it for landscape photography, low light (blue hour) and partly street and family pictures. I am not a profi photographer. What would you recommend, please? What about x-s10?

Thanks a lot

I had my X-E2 in 2014, along with the 18-55 kit lens ... and soon after, I bought the excellent 55-200 and the 10-24. Those three lenses served me very well until last year, when I thought the time had come to think about an upgrade.  IBIS was very tempting for shooting in low evening light, and for using a few primes such as the 60 macro and 35 f1.4.

I went for a very mint used X-H1, and loved it, but in the end I valued the X-E2 for it's compactness and light weight, so bought an X-S10, again in absolutely mint condition, with roughly 5000 clicks.  In comparing the two, I became attuned to the X-S10, and sold the X-H1. Since then I have thoroughly enjoyed the X-S10 and it's has become almost second nature, much as the XE-2 had become.  Physically, It's about the same length as the E-2, but the grip means that it can easily be carried on one hand ..

It has of course all the film simulations, and I'm still experimenting with those, plus I've never completely used up a battery ..  I had thought about an X-E4, but at more than twice the price, and with far more weight, there didn't seem any benefit for my usage. On the question of its swivel screen versus a tilt screen of say the X-T2, I'm getting more and more used to the benefits of the swivel screen - especially low camera angles in portrait mode ...

Hi,

Thanks a lot. I also use 10-24, don´t have long lense. I would appreciate also vlogging use of x-s10. I dont use film simulation, because I do RAW shooting and post processing. Thanks.

The upgrade from X-trans II camera to X-trans 4 will feel like a day and night difference. The camera will start faster, focus faster (and better) and will feel more responsive overall. You won't regret it. However, the X-S10 has a different control layout and lacks the usual Fuji dials, so keep this in mind if you're a Fuji dial lover.

Re: x-e2 upgrade

Thank you,

What I would like to have is exposure compensation, but it should be on back dial. More and more turning to the x-s10. Thanks.

Yes, the exposure comp dial is on the rear corner thumb dial, but as with ISO settings, it's not marked. However, very quickly you do adapt & get used to using the screen to view settings ...

Hi Richard,

Just wondering: what exactly do you feel should be 'better' in your next camera. Where do you feel the need for an upgrade?

The rangefinder-style of the X-E series with their specific user interface is very hands on, very much aimed at giving as direct as possible control over all photographic parameters. If you like that style of camera and want to stay with that, upgrading to a newer model in the X-E range (like the X-E3 or X-E4) or maybe even an X-Pro2 or X-Pro3 would be the logical option.

If you're just looking for a newer generation Fuji camera with generally updated features, a compact and well handling body and a reasonable price point, but missing the more direct control isn't a deal breaker, I'd certainly go for the X-S10.

Good luck in deciding!

Re: x-e2 upgrade

Hi, easier question? What could be better - faster zooming, faster saving, it should have a grip, stabilisation (I like low light) and build-in flash (I even tilt head of flash in my x-e2 by fingers and bounce the light). Low rating of x-s10 for landscape photography is probably due to missing weather sealing. I like windy, rainy weather, but short time should be OK. Sure, direct control is nice with X-E2.

X-E3 - almost like x-e2, 5 years old
X-E4 - nice, but missing what I want
X-pro3 is much more expensive

X-T5 as someone suggested, again out of my budget.

Thanks a lot!

You can get a grip for the XE4 if you want a grip.  I Part ex'd my XE4 with grip and thumb rest for the XT5.  I use it like PASM (heresy in these parts, I know, but I tried the XH2 and the grip didn't feel as good to me.
