Suggestion for used replacement Micro four thirds body?

Hi everyone,

I have a E-PL2 that is giving me the flashing IS message.

Since I have a few extra lenses that I invested in I'd like to stick with a camera body that will be compatible.

I was looking at used E-PL8 and E-PL9 bodies and those seem like a decent value.  What would you folks suggest I look at?  I'm open to other brands if my lenses would work on them.

Thanks much,

Dave

Check out a used OMD-EM10 Mark III for $250 (+/-$50).

A nice upgrade that shoots 4K with IBIS and yet still uses the same battery from your old EPL2.

That EPL2 is pretty old. You might look at the Panasonic gx85 although staying within the Oly ecosystem and using the same battery would be attractive.

I can recommend the EM-10 mk2 has all the essential newer tech, similar to EM-5mk2.
What you dont get is weatherproof.
But it has a EVF, which is a great addition.
Shooting with the back screen works in many situations, but in some it's just not very workable. Can be had inexcellent condition for +-$250 ish (body only).
Otherwise you can get amn E-P5 for about $200, and they are workhorse bodies. great combo of sensor, true Pix Processor, and good assortment of on body adjustments.
A very few develop issues with the control wheels, but mostly rare.
I personally have an EP-5 (and also E-M10ii...) and it has gone thru some extreme circumstances of conditions and weather without a hitch. Many thousands of shutter clicks and yrs later, still a reliable, great imager. Liked it so much I bought a VF-4 viewfinder for it, before going to an E-M5ii.
I've had less use of the E-M10, but it has everything I need, in a really nice, handy package. Plays well with all my lenses. Still keep it as a backup, when small size package is really needed.
Thx
Yuri

I like the E-PL8; I've had a couple of them. Especially since they are the last model you can use the optional EVF with. Love that. Great camera. Quite small.

But perhaps even better would be a used M10. Built in EVF. Bigger body, but not that big. And lots of features only found on more expensive models. OM often has some refurbs for good prices if you can afford them at GetOlympus.com.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.  I rarely used the camera.  But I want to take photos and videos of my daughters racing canoes.  Something in the $250 to $300 range would be perfect.

I wouldn't mind a waterproof housing so it could go in the water.  But, I have a GoPro and rarely use that in the water.

This is my snorkeling spot.  Is there a filter that would make the ocean water pop?

All iPhone photos.

Thanks,
Dave

Since you want to do video, i would say look for EM1 mark 2.

Or em10 mark II if 1080p is fine

After doing some more research my budget is going up.  I'd like to be able to enjoy the the newer stabilization / auto focus technology and still have a small form factor.

It looks like this might be a good choice:  Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III

Would this be a good bang for the buck?

Are there other places to look for used equipment at good prices other than the big auction site and this forum?

Thanks,
Dave

I have dealt with KEH dot com on a couple of occasions.  Their grading system is very reliable and prices are fair, although rarely "a steal".

I've had an EP5 and EM5.2 for years.  Great little cameras.  Only complaint I've seen about the EM5.3 is failure of the tripod socket when used with heavy lenses or a sling strap mount.  If you don't intend to use that way, then a great choice.

in addition to KEH, MPB.com is reliable, very conservative in their quality appraisals, has a 6-month warrantee. I've also bought from mapcamera in Japan (they advertise on fleabay), top quality. I'll deal with any of those three again, any time.

If you can find a decent EM5 Mark II for a good price, they're one of the best built cameras Olympus made, while still being small. I really enjoy mine, even though it's "old" and "only 16mp."

If you are asking for your camera, a circular polarizer (aka Pol Filter) reduces reflections and makes water and sky "pop". Of course, reflections can be nice too.

Not sure about phones, I am sure there are plenty of apps that add the polarizing effect.
