Actual lens cap size of SX 70 HS?

The crappy lens cover that came with the camera broke (spring clip) rendering it useless a week or two after I bought the camera. Amazon says it takes a 58mm, but that just arrived, and it doesn't fit. It doesn't say on the lens cap, or on the lens, or in the specs what size is required.

Anybody else been through this? I'm guessing it might be a 49mm but would like to verify before I order it.

I do not have the SX70 HS; still using my old SX50 HS.

You may want to consider getting the JJC Reversible Lens Hood Shade Protector & 67mm Filter Adapter Ring from Amazon, and getting 67mm hood.

I bought one awhile back for my SX50 HS and been working great; especially since I had a 67mm lens cap from previous lens and some 67mm filters.

I bought the JJC Reversible Lens Hood Shade Protector & 67mm Filter Adapter Ring due to you cannot use the Canon lens hood and the Canon filter adapter at the same time; 67mm common lens cap/ filter thread size.

Interesting I did do a Google search for "SX70 HS Lens Cap" (prior to replying) and all search results were 58mm?

Thanks, I may consider that. I can't believe Canon didn't print that info on the front of the lens.

Also, you're right that 58mm is usually listed as the right size, but if you hold the original cap next to a 58mm cap there's an obvious size difference. The original is much smaller.

Probably because with other camera lenses the "mm" size on the font of the lens is the "filter" size.

With any of the SX## cameras you cannot attached a filter to lens without the filter adapter that attaches to the lens via the lens' bayonet mount, and to use 67mm filters.

Canon "should" have noted the lens cap mm size on the back of the Canon Lens cap like the majority of other lens caps.

Typical Canon B$.

Re: Actual lens cap size of SX 70 HS?

The mm listed is usually for filter threads, as for lens cap, they seem not to follow the mm size.

You usually need to get a size bigger/smaller or a lens caps specifically made for that model camera.

Atleast this is my experience.

When I measure the sx70 cap that I have it seems to be 48mm, but online it says 58mm.

Really confusing.

Anyways do update us on which worked for you.

True.

However as i noted in my reply to the OP the SX## cameras do not have filter threads; need to by a filter adapter to attach filters to lens.

,,, as for lens cap, they seem not to follow the mm size. ...

? 🤨  Interesting.  Have not seen this with any of the camera lenses I've used that have
"Filter Threads"—lens caps use the lens' filter threads to attach to lens.

Just wanted to confirm for anyone else trying to figure this out, 49mm is the correct size for the lens cap.

I got this:

and it works great.
