Issue seeing videos from my xt4 on my Laptop

Recently I am not able to see my videos from my xt4 on my Laptop anymore. They show up in the SD card folder and they all there with gigabyte and everything but for some reason the playtime is 0:00:00 and I cannot watch them on any program. Fotos work just videos seem to be the issue. I am perfectly able to watch them on my camera. Does anyone know why this could possibly be. It used to work fine before. Maybe I have changed settings unknowingly, I am still a beginner with cameras. If anyone knows what the issue is I would really appreciate help.

Codec?

Not sure but could it be codec related?

You're on the safe side with the two H.264 codecs. The H.265 is a newer, better standard but can cause troubles with some IT equipment, especially in processing.

Martin

Well the good news is that you didn't lose any data. Looks like it's just a compatibility issue with your stock video player. If you open those files in a video editing program or maybe even something like VLC you should find they open just fine. Not sure why that would all the sudden change without you changing settings.

If they play fine on your camera but not on the computer, that means that you are missing some codecs for some of those media formats, you probably are using the built in Windows Media Player.

Install SMPlayer as it plays all videos without the need to install external codecs since it has them built-in and has better quality than VLC Media player (which also works by the way for what you need)

Don't forget to set SMPlayer or VLC as your default media player after you install it from Start > Settings > Apps > Default Apps

The problem is that I want to edit it an for some reason it doesn't show up either in my editing software (davinci resolve 17) after i try to import it. SO if I change to SMPLayer i can also use it then on other Programms?

Perfect!!

For the future, in case you run across an issue where you are able to view a video in SMplayer or any other video player for that matter but are unable to view/edit them in your video editor, you might wanna consider to convert them to a different format. I personally use VideoProc Converter

It's less about fixing, it's about making a choice.

In the movie mode, open the menu. It is the file format item. There you have three choices. Better choose one of the H.264, no matter which one, to be more universal, and not the H.265.

That could be the reason.

Let me know please.

Cheers,

Martin

I just tried that but then the bitrate is limited to 360mbps rather than 720mbps. You think I'd notice a difference in video quality or not really?

I was only speculating about a possible OP's file format issue. Just a hypothesis.

I don't want to make other statements since I cannot call myself an experienced video shooter. I do this only occasionally.
