X-T20 Hot Shoe Flash Not Working

Hello all,

I have been trying to figure out why my X-T20 will not trigger the hot shoe flash. I know that the flash (EF-X8) works on my X-T1, so it's not the flash.

Any suggestions?

(And yes, I tried searching for a past thread first)

Also, you cannot use electronic shutter with flash.

Hello Morris,

Once the flash is mounted, the only flash menu options not greyed out are Red Eye Removal and TTL-Lock Mode.

Flash Function Setting, LED Light Setting, Master Setting, and CH Setting all remain greyed out.

The Ef-X8 flash isn't on the X-T20 compatibility list. Your "search" was incomplete.

There are 5 points of contact on the X-T1, but only 3 on the X-T20.

I also confirmed by looking at the compatibility list for this little flash on Fuji's website, and it looks like any camera that comes with a built in flash is not compatible, which makes sense.

I was planning on purchasing a Godox flash to do a little macro photography, but was thinking I had an issue with the hotshoe.

You're headed in the right direction. The Godox TT350F is a great match for the X-T20 for macro shooting, and the on-board flash can be used as a controller for it without the limits of direct mounting the flash. Others might recommend larger, heavier flashes, but on the T20 the Godox is a great fit, includes a slide in white card (best for macro shooting) - all at a very good price. Metal foot is a big plus - the flash is built to last.

So, I received a Godox flash today. It works just fine on my X-T20 once I figured out to turn the flash on in the settings 🤣
