Eos m vintage lens, no shooting

Hi! I got my camera yesterday and want to connect a vintage lens to my eos m. I bought a md-efm converter and the lens behaves ok in the preview. But, I cannot shoot. Nothing happens. In some camera menus we have an option to shoot anyway but cannot find. Do I need to do something special?

You don’t say what your camera is but there should be a setting somewhere in the menu that says    “ Shoot without lens “ that you will need to enable.

You will need to get to the Custom Function and find the setting for "Release Shutter without Lens", set to "enable".

Your camera will need to be set to P, Av, Tv, or M in order for the Custom Functions area of the menu to be visible.

This needs to be enabled for all adapted vintage lens?

Yes.  It needs to be enabled for any lens without electrical contacts.

Thanks that was way better than my reply.  I couldn’t remember the exact terminology so took the ball park route 😊

You set it once and can forget it. Until you reset the camera completely to the factory defaults.

The title says Eos m, but it is a "Canon Eos M" and I have checked settings for that specific task, but could not find it

It's a weird placement of settings. I am usually qutie techy but not when hiding under something called custom setting. That sounds more like when you want to create your own profiles etc

Sure I gathered it was a Canon EOS M of which there are several so the specific model would have been helpful. You’ve got it sorted now so all is good 😊

I am one of those who saw youtube videos of the "canon eos m" cinematic possibilty and was blown away how "cinematic" it looks For me that means a bit of chromatic abberation and not perfect image. I have 2 35mm vintage lenses I am going to try out. Right now I am quite new to photography in general and vintage lenses means I need to learn everything. Cannot shoot with auto, and that is good
