The XF 14mm F2.8 lens. A good choice to digitize large diagrams

This us just a quick note to report on my positive results at digitizing a number of diagrams with the XF14mm lens mounted on an X-T3. The diagrams were too large for the digitizer I have. The other lens I have I could have used was the XF60 but that would have meant a distance to subject longer than what my setup allowed. So I gave a chance to the XF14 and the digitized diagrams I get are good enough even in the corners.

I use the lens without a filter since I noticed some flare caused by the filter but I use a metal shade for protection.

Here is an example of a diagram that was attached to an old book on Thermodynamics.

The camera alignment is done with a mirror. The shooting aperture is F/6.4 and the focus is set by the camera auto-focus in AF-M mode. The raw file was processed in RawTherapee with capture sharpening.

Agree, excellent quality.

According to Opticallimits, that lens has virtually no distortion which is a good property for your use case.

Thanks for the reference Martin. The low distortiion combined with a flat field and a close minimum focus distance all together contribute to make that lens a good candidate for my application. Saying that makes me realize thai I didn't check if a lens profile was applied or not by RT.

I just checked and yes, RT applied a lens profile. Here is another picture shot with light diffusers mounted on the two flashes, The framing is tighter on this picture than on the first one.

Absolutely outstanding quality.

Interesting because I would not first have thought about a wide angle lens for that purpose.

But excellent.

Thanks for the review and you also taught me something I didn't know about the DPReview website. I first viewed the image on my iPhone (at what I've always assumed was 100% by un-pinching with my fingers) and I couldn't read ANY of the diagram other than the title. I knew that couldn't be right, so I switched to the desktop and viewed it at 100%. I could read EVERYTHING crystal clear all the way into the no-vignetting corners. Great job.
