I think the difference you are seeing is so small, that you risk any attempts to improve it will actually result in making it worse.

I would be very satisfied with a lens performing like this in the corners at f/1.4

  1. Was this manual focus or via live view?
  2. Did you focus on the test chart center or on the corners?
  3. Are these crops from one single image or two separate images?

Testing at f1.4 for corner sharpness is tricky. If you use live view and focus on each corner individually and then compare the images you may get consistent sharpness.

I think your results here don't necessarily conclude that your lens is faulty. Besides, the difference is very minor overall.
