I think I’m torn between the m200 & the m50 mark ii.

Decisions, decisions…

Both the M200 and the M50II have just one dial, however, with the M50II you can assign a button to toggle functions of the dial.

When you're in M + auto ISO and the dial changes the aperture you can press that button so the dial changes the shutter speed. Press another time and the dial changes exposure compensation. With another press you're back at aperture again.

In AV + auto ISO you can toggle between aperture and EC.

In TV + auto ISO you can toggle between shutter speed and EC.

With the M200 you can't do that.

So with the M50 you can change your settings without taking your eye from the viewfinder using your muscle memory. The M200 doesn't allow to use your muscle memory, you'll need the back screen a whole lot more.

Like @MyM6II said, you can do that with the M200. Don't need to assign any button, it's already programmed to the "up" button to toggle between those settings in those modes.

O.k., thanks for correcting me.

The only buttons I assigned on my M200, is the "*" button to act as a focus button instead of the shutter.

The "movie record" button to show depth of field preview.

45 is more than enough, but 500.000 isn't

Said no Nikon user, ever.

It is all personal preference. Every system has quirks. For example, Canon zoom rings rotate the wrong way, but Nikon's lenses mount the wrong way.

Nikons are just weird, I have tried both D90 and D300 and I liked neither of them.

M100 vs M200:

M200 advantages:

The AF is much better on the M200.

  1. It has Dual Pixel eye-detect autofocus
  2. It has 2 EV better working range: EV -4 - 18 (f/1.4). M100 has -1 - 18 (f/2.0).
  3. It has Spot AF
  4. M200 has up to 143 AF points. M100 has 49

The M200 has a Digic 8 prosessor. M100 has Digic 7. (Overall the M200 feels much snappier.)

It can shoot in C-RAW format.

It has "Ambience Priority" and "White Priority" options in the AWB settings.

Digital Lens Optimizer is added to the "Lens aberration correction" in the menu.

Battery life of approx. 315 shots (vs. 295)

It can shoot vertical video.

It can shoot 4K, 24p video (1.6x crop)

M100 advantages:

Sensor cleaning and wifi button.

I wish my M200 had the wifi button just so I could have another button to customize.

I don't understand why they would remove the sensor cleaning function. Does it add that much to the cost!?

Canon gives and Canon takes. I bet they made the M200 "too good" so they had an internal poll on what feature to remove. And this time the sensor cleaning option won. (With the M6 Mark II the "Remove the EFCS" option won the poll.) Or maybe they just spin a wheel of fortune.

it sucks when they dumb down

A7C + Samyang f/1.8 + 28-60mm is the way to go

M = dead end

RF full frame = closed mount

RF aps-c isn't dying as it's not alive yet (if ever), and it's still a closed mount

Honestly, I really don't understand why the question "which EOS M camera for me?" is answered by "Sony A7C ..... is the way to go" (?).

Do you reply in the Sony FF forum, that "Canon EOS M is the way to go"?

Getting RP or R is considerably less expensive than getting A7c.

Geeeeez !!!

Is it really so hard to understand that this is the EOS M Talk forum ???

(Or that OP's question is about M cameras ?)

relax on playing the heavy, lots of talk about m being on the ropes, and Canon shooting itself in the foot with lockouts, no worries about other suggestions, including sony, fuji and canon RF and RF-s, some of us learn from diverse opinions from keg and storm who offer great insight because they've had their feet on the other side and their knowledge

I actually thought that I was being rather unbiased and giving a neutral advice.

My personal pick after having tried Sony in my hand and not liked it, several years with both M43 and fuji and decades with Canon that I just like the usability of canon the most to the degree I have found out I can almost pickup any of them and start using them.

Canon management makes weird and boneheaded decisions from time and time but no-one can deny that Canons have the greatest usability of the entire camera spectrum.

agree 100%. I switched from an A6000 to the M50 and never looked back. Then I recently got a refurb M6II to increase that usability even further and future proof my M glass. Open mount or not, I think lenses like the 11-22, 22, 28 and 18-150 are the biggest bang for your buck in ‘budget’ apsc photography.

I also was never fond of the Sony A 6000 line. For some reason I do not like the form factor.

As I had already a wide array of lenses for the Ms, I bought a M6II for the 32MP and I got an extremely good deal.

However, I was seriously looking at a A 6600 for some time because it has IBIS.
