Check picture style from image

Hello,

I was shooting some photos this days with the Picture Style set to "Auto". I liked very much the style of a set of photos and I would like to know what settings were set to create a custom picture style with this settings.

Is there any way to recover the picture style with the original JPG?

If I remember correctly a Canon pc software (I don't remember the name) can extract the settings from a photo in order to put them after in one of the memories. It's being a while since I saw it and I don't remember details but if you put on Google "Canon custom picture style" you will find sooner or later something.

"picture style editor" I think it's the name of the program but I am not sure.

I have downloaded the "Canon Picture Style Editor" software (i am using MacOS) but I am not able to open a jpg. I am not sure if this software only allows to import raw or if there is any bug...

I had also downloaded a few years ago but I didn't experimented with it. I don't think there is a bug, just is not an easy program to use. There are also instructions on the Canon site how to use it.

Picture style Editor is a raw only app . Also you won’t be able to customise  the Auto Picture style with it because that particular style changes on a shot to shot basis according to the subject matter . The Fine Detail Picture Style cannot be customised  with it either but I’ve no idea why.

Yes, I realised that this software is only taking raw images.

I still did not found how to get the picture style or the modifications applied by the "Auto" picture style in the jpeg. Looks like there is nothing in the exif data.

Well, I guess this is it.

If there is any information in the JPG file, it should be inside the EXIF data.

However,

If you shoot RAW, you can see the Picture Style applied, change it and generate new JPGs using DPP.

You can apply a picture setting (picture style, exposure, white balance, etc) to a bunch of other pictures using DPP. It is called recipe.

I guess that RAW files have space for more information.

So, you may consider shoot RAW + JPG to get and later be able to change these settings, or recover data, reduce noise, and so on.

I shoot Compressed RAW (CRAW) + JPG. If I need JPG to send thru cellphone, it is already ready. If I'd like to, I can edit RAW pictures inside the camera and create new JPGs. And CRAW is not that big either.

So, I can take pictures now (with RAW) and later on, learn how to process them.

Of course, there are also videos that show how to pick one picture colors and transfer them to another picture using LR. You can also try this.

Advi, thank you very much. I will shoot raw to find out this picture style that I liked very much
