Blue Spruce Forest aka Frozen Soap bubble

A fun winter macro exercise - the patterns are temperature and humidity dependent.

This was done at about - 20 C

Cheers

Thank you for the kind words and Merry Christmas D, the frozen bubbles have been making the macro rounds - they are quite easy. The morning sun is the holy grail since the bubble crystals will break up the spectrum.

Give it a shot - its quite fun - here I used a flash shooting back through the bubble - back light works well..

Thank you kindly Ernie... almost - it was pretty freakin' chilly and the fingers were like ice but then I saw my bigger gloves could operate the camera. I only have to set the focus the use a 2 s delay on the shutter button.

So the first round the fingers were freezing but the 2nd was much better.

The real deal is a bubble backlit by sunrise because the water crystals will break the light spectrum up and it has a rainbow effect

Thanks JM,

Yes, I did a series of test shots with gel on flash  and colored backgrounds but the effect was the same , so I then did them in white light / Speedlight only rather than fixing gels to the Speedlight as white can be changed in post.

Now I have a Lume Cube Panel Pro so I can put the desired color SOOC.

As noted , teh real magnum opus with these is natural sunlight at low angle.

It gives a golden  kaleidoscope look with each ice facet breaking the spectrum.

I tested many colors of gels and backgrounds but blue and white seemed to work best w/o direct sun.

On FB Macro there are many examples - its an easy one.
