You probably know this but if you want the camera to keep using the same type card, then don’t close the door when you take it out. Leave it open and then when you replace the card, the camera will remain on that card type.

In one of the recent firmware updates, a 'Priority card' option was added. Yellow Spanner, tab 1, 'Record func+card/folder sel.", scroll down to 'Record/play'.

That will make it switch back to the selected card as soon as it's back in the camera.

I don't think that will help with the situation described in the first port, but it might. It helps for my use case

Thank you, thank you for bringing that to my attention!  Longstanding annoyance with 7D, 5D3, 5D4, and now R5 cameras resolved!

I had no idea this was a new feature.

Thank you for pointing it out.

I read the online manual, watched waaaaay too many youtube videos about the R5 while waiting for my pre-order so I had a decent grasp of the options available at launch. But this specific feature had escaped my attention because I hadn't bothered re-reading the updated manual Someone on another forum had to point it out to me as well.

With https://cam.start.canon staying actually up to date, it is a lot less work to quickly check the latest manual. But I would like to have 1st party showcases for new features. Like Adobe has Julieanne Kost make a handful of videos showing where the new features are located, visually show what they do and give some more context on their intended use.

Why do you think this will not help with the situation described in first post? I think this is exactly what OP problem is (and mine was).

I wasn't sure how it interacts with saving to multiple cards, but after re-reading the post the issue seems to be that it changes the 'playback' card, and this menu is for both 'record' and 'play'. So I think you're right, it could actually address the issue in the OP!

Anyway, I try to stay away from absolute statements when I'm not 100% certain, I've been pulled into waaaay too many discussions about semantics that end in flamewars. I know how the internet works nowadays
