In reviewing my archive I found a lot of bird photos and realized that I like taking photos of these feathered characters. The following is a sample from the archive.

A Grey Crowned African Crane

an American White Pelicon

Two Sand Hill Cranes

A Snow Geese

A mud duck. aka American Coot

A Mallard Drake

An Avacet

A Wood Duck

A Horned Owl and Chick

A hooded Night Heron

A Flicker Wood Pecker

A Great Blue Heron Family

Enjoy!

These are nice!  You should take more.  I see most taken with the sd1m.  I have a long zoom and prime in the sa mount that I use with my A9.  I see you were shooting  up to around iso 800.  I think I will have try with my sdqh and see what I can get as i shoot many birds but never with a sigma cam.  Thanks for posting.

Thanks Vitee, comments appreciated.

I smiled at your quip about birds being patient, I have not found many to have that characteristic

Hi DA, thanks for your comments.  They are appreciated.  I have taken lots more pix of birds and put these as some of my favorites.  I am posting 2 more here that I like a lot.

I have not had good luck with the sd Quattro because of the blackout between shots, which make it hard to track the birds.

Great Blue Heron

Enjoy!

Great shots! Shooting birds on a Foveon camera it's a challenge in the challenge of birding itself

I've just gotten a 100-400 to try out my luck at nature photography with the SD Quattro, which I know won't be easy, given the lens' narrow aperture at max focal lenght and Foveon sensor's low tolerance for high ISO shots, but I indeed like the challenge to try to get something remotely decent out of it

Thanks tirpitz666 and birding is challenging with any camera.

I tried shooting humming birds using the sd Quattro and the 100-400 mm lens.  I had no luck and a lot of out of focus and blurred shots, due to the black out between shots..  I swapped the lens to my wife's SD15 and got some reasonable images.  Here is one of them:

Good luck!

Re: I Like Birds

Nice hummer. I have thousands of hummer shots with many different cameras.  What used to do with cameras with poor AF was to focus on them when  drinking from a feeder but not shoot and lock focus then when the back away from the feeder shoot.  You will get a fair number of sharp ones that way.  Will have to try with my sd1m and sdqh.  They stay all winter at my place and it’s been really cold this week so I have been replacing frozen feeders every few hours for them.  They are crazy to get to the feeders when this cold and many at once.  Good to give them a life line when this cold.  Will be warming tomorrow so more easy for them.

Thanks for the comments Peter, very much appreciated.  One the 2 are also among my favorites.  The SD15 is Kathleen's camera and I does not let me shoot it often

Must be very friendly if that's a 50mm lens. Good shot.

Are they only called Apostle birds when they are in gangs of twelve ?
