WOW! That's one very good capture of an otherwise not very colorful bird!

I am a year away from saving enough money to buy that lens

It is, or recently was, a mere $2564.05 at BH Phortovideo if purchased with a Payboo card.

Such a deal.

Very nice.

I wish that I could ID sparrows (if that is one).

That combination of the R7 and the RF 100-500 is really sharp. Here’s a House Sparrow that I shot a couple of weeks ago in my backyard. It is heavily cropped.

Thanks.

I'm not a birder, although I keep feeders in my front yard. Didn't think to check using my rarely-used Sibley.

They are also known as an English sparrow.  An invasive non-native pest bird in my area.  They aggressively drive out native colorful birds.  Where they are, you will most likely see few other bird species.  At least not many.

Shooting them on sight is recommended by naturalists.  Along with Starlings.

Though that was a good job shooting them with the RF 100-500

Shoot on sight? Guess I'll need that high-capacity magazine for my AR-15.

My first grade teacher (in 1960) tried to persuade her students to kill starlings with "bird bolos". I think that she had no takers.

What part of the planet are you in?

Starling are n free fall decline at the moment and many are doing lots to protect them. Let’s hope they don’t go the way of the passenger pigeon.

Starlings are an introduced species in the US. Invasive species, if you prefer.

60 years ago, there were some who wished to exterminate them on this continent. I don't know what the current consensus is.

I've never killed any, or even chased them away from my feeders. I enjoy seeing their flocks in the autumn.

Yeah, it is a challenging dilemma. Here grey squirrel, mink and signal crayfish are problematic. Mink are slowly being eradicated but I still think they are wonderful creatures.

Australia are in a total mess because of invasive species, especially the cane toad.

In Europe starling are in huge decline due to persecution and loss of habitat.

Very strange, the twigs in the background, look like they have been through a 'find edges' filter.

Ours are black short tailed with silver/gold feather tips.  European Starlings in middle USA.  Aggressive and lots of them.

These birds in this video who are fighting flicker birds for the flicker bird's nest.  Look up on YouTube "Teds Holdover" "Native Woodpeckers vs. Invasive Starlings".  Start at 1:00 in to see Starlings being bullies.  Warning, video of hunting the birds later in the video.

He gets a lot of grief for hunting cute invasive species but he likes chickadees, Cardinals, blue bellies, woodpeckers, etc.  He is actually knowledgable about native birds and hunts birds that drive out natives.  When he is done the native birds come back to the feeders.  Nice.

I have a starling in my barn that I chase out each night with a rake.  I want him to roost elsewhere.  I could catch him and mail him to you if you guys are short.

I'm seeing a few in the pre-owned market. Sometimes it's luck and timing.
