Canon EOS M6 Mark II Help with EFS 55-250 LENS

Evening,

just wondering if anyone can help??

recently purchased the Canon EOS M6 Mark II and have some lenses from my old camera so purchased the the lens mount to us my current lenses

the only problem I have encountered is with the EFS 55-250 LENS and the fact that the auto focus doesn’t seem to work

is there a setting I have wrong or is this common with this lens and camera?

the auto focus works fine with all my other lenses

thank you

mike

Welcome to the Forum Mike. Great camera. Lots of  M System  enthusiasts here!

First, check that the AF/MF switch on the lens didn't inadvertently get switched to MF (work the switch a few times).

There is also an AF/MF switch on the M6ii. do the same.

Check/clean the electrical contacts on the lens and on the camera's lens mount. Scrub with a Q-Tip initially.

Try other lenses. Try the 55-250 on another camera body if you can (it might need repair).

If all else fails, Canon is having a great sale on the 55-250 STM lens on the Canon Refurbished site...

BTW you might check out the M6ii Tips & Tricks thread for some great leisure reading...

Best of luck to you.

I just bought the STM version of that lens off the Canon website as "refurbished" from Canon for $99. Canon may call it "refurbished," but I believe it is brand new. In any case, it works perfectly in every way on my M6 II with my Canon adapter. I agree with the previous poster as to what to check, however, I would also check the contacts on the adapter and make sure they are clean. The STM version has one of the highest ratings amongst lens reviewers I have ever seen for a budget lens. See Christopher Frost's review of it. I tested mine and the autofocus for superfast and sharpness was also unparalleled for such a lens. I hope you can fix the problem.

Which version of the lens are you using?  There are three versions; EF-S 55-250mm, EF-S 55-250mm II, and EF-S 55-250mm STM.

If I remember correctly, the most recent STM version had a firmware update from Canon specifically related to autofocus issues with M system cameras.

Are you using the genuine Canon mount adapter or a third party adapter?  Can you post a photo of your adapter?

Yes, the lens had an important firmware update regarding AF-F! Check the Canon homepage for your lens under support.

The lens is updated like a camera firmware and on the camera, there was 1 for the M3 and another 1 for the lens.

The camera it will be up to date, but the lens firmware needs to be updated, too!

You download it to a SD card and run lens firmware update just as would for camera firmware.
