Fujfilm X-T2 Custom White Balance, procedure

I'm having problems creating a custom white balance in my Fujifilm X-T2.

In the White Balance menu, I select Custom White Balance No.1 (or whichever of the 3 custom white settings), then use the D-Pad button to go to the next view - which shows a rectangle in the middle of the screen.

I point this rectangle at a plain white sheet of paper.

Next, I assume I'm meant to click the shutter button to create the custom white balance. But I press the shutter button, and nothing happens.

(I even tried pressing the central OK button in the D-Pad, but that doesn't seem to do anything.)

Question: when I reach the point of having a rectangle showing in the viewfinder, what do I do next?

Custom White Balance

Choose [1], [2], or [3] to adjust white balance for unusual lighting conditions. White balance measurement options will be displayed; frame a white object so that it fills the display and press the shutter button all the way down to measure white balance (to select the most recent custom value and exit without measuring white balance, press DISP/BACK, or press MENU/OK to select the most recent value and display the fine-tuning dialog).

If “COMPLETED!” is displayed, press MENU/OK to set white balance to the measured value.

If “UNDER” is displayed, raise exposure compensation and try again.

If “OVER” is displayed, lower exposure compensation and try again.

Following the instruction manual steps does not work for me.

When I do this -- "frame a white object so that it fills the display and press the shutter button all the way down to measure white balance" - there is no display of the word "COMPLETED".

Any suggestions?

You should get a COMPLETED, UNDER or OVER message at the top of the screen after pressing the shutter. If not. . . I'd start by double checking what shooting mode I'm doing this with, as well as whether the camera has had the latest firmware update installed (I seem to recall having a problem with that too, when the camera was released, but the details escape me - hence firmware comes to mind. I don't use it often, but it works fine for me now).

It might pay to reset the camera to it's defaults and give it a try.   In the past some have found that firmware updates applied to highly customized setups don't always work 100% until the camera is reset.

When you have the white box on the screen, you should see at bottom of screen options. (press shutter to sample WB)

Once shutter is pressed, and sampling was successful, you should see:

If you don't see these options, then something is not right.. Maybe you've got camera in movie mode?

Re: Fujfilm X-T2 Custom White Balance, procedure

1. Invoke WB with the WB button or MENU → IQ → White Balance.

2. Scroll to “Custom” (1, 2, or 3), and press OK.

3. Point the camera at something white,  and fill the green frame in the center with the white object.

4. Press the shutter button.

5. Press "OK" to see “Completed”. If you press BACK instead, you can try again.

If “Under” shows up instead of “Completed”, increase exposure compensation so the camera can see white.

If  “Over”, lower exposure compensation and redo.
