Weekly Theme Show#3 December 21-27, 2022
1

Since noone else made a suggestion, I'll offer one:

This week's Theme is:

Photograph something soft:

a baby's tummy, a peacock feather, a mink coat, a cotton ball, a glass of fine brandy by a crackling fire...

"Anything goes in this thread (as long as DPReview's general standards are not violated): any camera; any subject; any post-processing; etc. Recent images you have created in the past week or two are much preferred but not required. A little background on where, how and why you made the image(s) you posted would add interest. By posting here, you are inviting constructive criticism and general discussion of your images. Please share your expertise by providing constructive criticism on photos others have posted."

A person may enter the Theme Week as many times as they want, but please limit your photographs to no more than 4 (four) photos at a time.

Foggy Fundy: This image was captured over the summer while on a trip to the east coast of Canada. The sky was almost entirely clear except for some fog rising up over some cliffs next to the ocean in the distance. As the air rose up the cliffside it condensed into a narrow band of fog rolling over the hills. I added an ND filter to stretch out the shutter speed to get the water in the ocean less textured, and to try and show more of the "flow" of the fog. It was quite challenging to get a sharp photo due to the intensity of the wind coming up over the cliffs and shaking the camera. Captured with a 5DIV and 70-200/4 IS.

How about my tummy? It's (too) soft!  LOL

Oh wait, it can't violate the guidelines of grossness....

Sweet old (SOFT-hearted) gentleman

We adopted big-boy Boom (short for Boomhauer) about 5 1/2 years ago as an adult, from a literally broken home situation. We didn't know for sure, so at the time we -- our veterinarian included -- assumed he was about three years old, Now, we realize we underestimated and he's probably more like 12 at least. In the past year he's started losing weight and is now slightly less than half his previous top weight (which to be fair was a little heavy). Exams have suggested possibly IBS or lymphoma, but nothing conclusive. It wouldn't be fair to him to undergo exploratory surgery just to confirm we can't really do anything about his condition. He shows no indication of pain, just lots of affection. He seems to be comfortable and content.

So we're making the most of the time we still have, since it's pretty clear a long countdown is underway. These days he pretty much gets what he wants... Which is lap snuggles, shared naps and in-between-meal snacks.

(Google Pixel 4a shot cleaned up in Affinity Photo)

Here's an even-softer, earlier version from June 2017.

My wife's Panda slippers.

They are both cute and slightly terrifying at the same time.

Guinness! Got your PM which lead to this post. Been a while.

Yeah, the goats. Not sure about "...legendary and ubiquitous..." though, lol. They're in the general area on the same ridges, valleys and peaks nearby. Brutal weather for them lately. A remote weather station close and relative to their elevation was registering -14 F with average winds in the 60s gusting 83-95mph midday today. They looked good going into winter this Fall so I'm sure they were hunkered down and doing fine up there. A little warmer and not as windy tonight.

Clicked on this link above to see where it lead and it surprisingly took me to, well, me. A little ways down the page are my 2 most recent posts with goats in them. I'm on the forum sporadically anymore and mostly hang out over at the Nature and Wildlife forum.

Digirame, If I may, where do you live? The same region as Avyman ?

Hi Digirame. Guinness sent this to me. Haven't checked out this forum to see your shots for a while. Years actually.

That's one beautiful billy goat you've captured there. Looks to be in his prime. Nice shot! Perfect time of year to see them growing out their coats for the impending winter -- not in their shaggy clothes later in the spring and early summer. Very soft indeed. Except for their hooves and horns of course.

The mountain goat is alive and well. Here he was sleeping a little in the shadows.
