Autumn Colors and Wood Ducks
3

In early November off I went to find some wood ducks. Before I got there I found some autumn colors. You may remember me showing these previously (earlier years). Then I did manage to get a few photos of the wood ducks. They were still "playing hard to get". But I got a few, by poking in between the bushes.

Photo No. 1 - I don't think we were at peak colors, but we were pretty close.

Photo No. 2 - Standing away further....

Photo No. 3 - And now closer....

Photo No. 4 - The sun disappeared.

Photo No. 5 - But the red color was brilliant.

Photo No. 6 - I followed this tree around to see many leaves had fallen.

Photo No. 7 - OK, now to the wood ducks that were at the same park.

Photo No. 8 - Again....

Photo No. 9 - I completely lost the sun another time.

Photo No. 10 - Here they are hugging the reeds....

Photo No. 11 - They don't like for me to get close.

Photo No. 12 - But I waited for them.

Photo No. 13 -Ah ha...I sneaked up on one and got close.

Photo No. 14 - And....

Photo No. 15 - Again....

Dig,

This was a nicely balanced shot, I think.

I liked your shots of the male and female ducks palling around together.

Autumn Colors and Wood Ducks - Thanks

Thanks.  The wood ducks often bond together each year, for each nesting season.

Beautiful, Lucid Images

You've certainly brought your A-Game with these. The water is hypnotic. I like how you stick with f/9; kind of a Goldilocks aperture.

Whatever you're doing in PP is perfect to my eye.

Hi Digirame,

Love the autumn colours, those reds are beautiful. The Wood ducks are beautiful also, he looks as though he's wearing a green helmet.

Start of Winter....

Hi all,

... Cold, Dark and challenging, you've got to get out of bed to take photos that's the challenge.

Is it rain or snow clouds?? (Aperture f/8 ~~ (SS): 1/400 ~~ ISO 100 ~~ EC: 0 ~~ PASM Mode: Aperture Priority ~~ Metering: Evaluative ~~ Focus Type: One Shot ~~ FL: 70mm ~~ Lens: Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD ~~ Camera ID: Canon EOS 7D Mark II).

It's not cold enough to stop the Cormorant. (Aperture f/7.1 ~~ (SS): 1/1000 ~~ ISO 2500 ~~ EC: 0 ~~ PASM Mode: Custom ~~ Metering: Partial ~~ Focus Type: AI Servo ~~ FL: 200mm ~~ Lens: Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD ~~ Camera ID: Canon EOS 7D Mark II).

Be interesting to see what these flowers look like in spring. (Aperture f/7.1 ~~ (SS): 1/200 ~~ ISO 125 ~~ EC: 0 ~~ PASM Mode: Manual ~~ Focus Type: One Shot ~~ FL: 500mm ~~ Lens: Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD ~~ Camera ID: Canon EOS 7D Mark II ~~ Notes: Evaluative metering used for initial start point).

Freezing conditions, parts of the canal were frozen over. (Aperture f/8 ~~ (SS): 1/80 ~~ ISO 160 ~~ EC: -0.66 ~~ PASM Mode: Aperture Priority ~~ Metering: Evaluative ~~ Focus Type: One Shot ~~ FL: 50mm ~~ Lens: Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM ~~ Camera ID: Canon EOS 7D Mark II).

Autumn Colors and Wood Ducks - Thanks

Thanks.  The green color will show through when there's enough light.  We have to catch it just right.

Autumn Colors and Wood Ducks - Thanks

Thanks.  I took many different photos of the autumn leaves, hoping to catch one that was perfect.  Sometimes we don't know, until we see them on the computer.

Re: Start of Winter....

You never disappoint...wow...those first two are really nice.  We may get snow on Thursday in the valleys.  It seems very likely, but may change to freezing rain later the next day.

Hiya all,

Some shots of our (now ended) cold snap.

Snow:

Snow on holly:

Tilgate Lake was frozen over. I'd never seen it before.

There were a couple of large holes in the ice for the birds.

Mute Swan

And, finally, the lake viewed from a different position.

Enjoy!

That looks similar to what we might have this Thursday. It is forecast to snow for about a half a day. We have some ponds turning to ice too.

Hi Digirame, Thank You.

For now the freeze seems to be over, we went from -5C to +14C overnight, crazy.

Hi Dunlin,

At least the Swan found some water,  the lake looks amazing frozen over.

Thanks.

People seemed to enjoy throwing things on the ice (presumably trying to break it). There was even a body-board.

It was the same here, though not quite so dramatic.
