Did Sony buy Sigma?
1

Greetings Sigma Fans

So I went to another event the other night hoping to see the FP-L and a L mount lens or two, but left early as all I saw was Sony with Sigma lenses on the Sony and maybe a Nikon or two.

Oh well, I have enough Sigma cameras with the Foveon and Sigma lenses to last the rest of my life.

I guess I'll just stop going to Sigma events.

Maybe I left to early, ya that's it I didn't stay long enough.

I hear Nikon is having a Z sale???? I'd buy another Leica, but I only have one kidney left, and I just found out that a investment company owns 55% of Leica.

Happy Holidays

No, Sony just took over the spot Canon historically had in Sigma's business - and marketing.

I'm guessing Sigma wants people to know their lenses work just fine on Sony cameras. It's a bit sad though that nobody had a Panasonic camera, and it's really sad that nobody had an fp L at least.

If I were an L mount shooter I would be very disappointed to see only E mount cameras at a Sigma event. In fact, I would probably never go to another Sigma event after that.

What I feel bad about
1

I've support Sigma for over 20 years now so when a Rep shows up with a Sony and the FP is in the car,..............why would I want to buy a Sigma camera?

I mean............... they could have invited me to bring my FP and lenses and I could have talk about the wonderful Sigma color science and how close it is to the Foveon and how you can make the camera what you want, or how great SPP really is and it's Free..........and I'd mention Sony and how the Sigma lenses work on Sony, Nikon, and Fuji but the lenses match best with the FP series and what you can with less money spent, and how it's part of the L mount system, I could have brought my Leica and Panasonic S1. Oh well cell phones are taking over anyway what the heck.

Enjoy

Roger J,

Hi S

What event did you attend.?

I get invited by one of the local camera stores when they and Sigma do an event together or if Leica does an event. I know most of the Reps from being in the business for 50 years and doing work for them on and off. When Leica has an event they will not allow you to use a Sigma lens on a Leica L mount camera. They will loan you a Leica lens.

Was an event run directly by Sigma.?

No  it was a camera store and Sigma was there and no other camera company. So I've come to the conclusion that it's about lenses only. Sales are way down for all the companies and going lower. From what I understand, with cellphones coming on strong and all the old gear to be had, new camera sales and lens sales are in the toilet. It's hard to sell a $1500-to $4900 USD or more camera and lenses to go with it when no one has a need or want for it.

Now that I think about it the store looked like it was not doing to good. They cut back to 3 camera brands and lenses Sony, Canon, and Nikon. I was hoping for news about the FFF camera but there isn't any. I'm moving back to film more and more. Oh well it is what it is.

Cellphone, FP with a lens and a ON2n with a lenses, and a OM adapter for my FP's

Have fun

Apologies for the newbie comment, but I thought Sigma was primarily a lens company (i.e. core revenue from selling lenses).

So it kind of makes sense for Sigma to play nice with the 800 pound gorilla(s) in the camera-body space.

Roger J,

Not entirely a Sigma event then, but I totally agree that if a Sigma rep. is there he / she should have a Sigma camera as well as any other such as Sony to hand.

Probably 98% of revenue from lenses.
