photos a bit blurry

Hi, I have a small problem with a canon eos 550d camera, and it is that it takes my photos a bit blurry. At first glance it is not noticeable, but if you zoom in you see that the letters are not as sharp as they should be. The process I do to take the photo is as follows. I lightly press the shutter button, wait for the beep and focus, and then press the button all the way down to take the photo. I have made the comparison of the photos that I take with this camera and those that I take with a xiaomi redmi note 7 mobile, and those of the mobile are sharper. This is the foto taken with the canon camera:

Hola,

Are you using your camera in auto mode?

It looks like the shutter speed isn't fast enough, but that's not something you can change in auto mode.

AV mode controls the aperture (not the shutter), TV mode controls the shutter speed (and not the aperture).

M (manual) controls both.

All three control the ISO.

Try TV or M.

Or, alternatively, if you really wanted to control the SS (shutter speed) in AV mode then change the ISO.

dostoyevski,

Do you have more than one lens?

To me, your photo doesn't appear to be blurry, as much as out of focus. It doesn't look like your lens focused well.

If you have another lens, try that and see what you get.

Also, put your camera on a tripod and set a 2 second timed delay and step back from the tripod so that you are not touching it.

See what you get then.

Generally, if you are in Av mode, when you set the aperture, the camera will select a shutter speed roughly twice your focal length on a zoom lens, which should be enough to handle any camera shake, especially with a stationary subject.

This is from a Canon Support page in 2015:

Images are blurry, not focused, or lack sharpness (EOS REBEL T2i/EOS 550D)

Solution

"Is the camera moving when you press the shutter button?

Make sure not to move the camera when you press the shutter button.

Particularly, when shooting night scenes or shooting in dark surroundings, the shutter speed is slower than that under normal shooting conditions. Use a tripod or a remote controller (sold separately) to make sure that the camera remains still when shooting.

Is the distance between the lens and the subject within the lens's focus range?

The focus range within the distance from the lens to the subject differs depending on the lens. Check the type of the lens you are using and make adjustments to the distance between the subject and the lens.

Is the subject covered by the AF point in the viewfinder?

The camera focuses the subject that is covered by the AF point in the viewfinder.

If the subject cannot be covered by the AF point for reasons of composition, use the focus lock function.

For further information about focus lock, please refer to the Related information."

Also, you might read your manual about how to customize a Picture Sty;e and adjust it for things like Sharpness.

Generally, if you are in Av mode, when you set the aperture, the camera will select a shutter speed roughly twice your focal length on a zoom lens, which should be enough to handle any camera shake, especially with a stationary subject.

This might happen if you have auto ISO enabled but if you select a fixed ISO then the shutter speed selected by the camera's metering will be the one that gets the exposure correct and this can sometimes be too slow for a hand held camera.

Here's a shot from another 18mp camera (SL1) and the humble EF-S 18-55 lens:

It speaks for having too slow shutter speed, thus the motion blur, on the pic posted.

It is a big help for us, if you include an EXIF info when asking such questions, or, at least, tell the shutter speed, f/stop , etc

Enjoy the shooting.
