Sigma 15-30

has anyone shot the lens on the FP?  I am thinking about it for use on astro images.  I was looking at my shots from that lens  (sold it several years ago) and they look better than I remember.

Re: Sigma 15-30

I think you might be better off with the Sigma 10-20mm (either version). As I recall, you can use it on FF with minimal vignetting until about 15mm. I shot a fair amount of outdoor architecture with the 15-30mm (on the SD14) and I seem to remember it having coma issues with lights. Also, didn't some of the older SA lenses like the 15-30mm have AF issues with the Quattro bodies?

I do like the 15-30mm for landscapes and have always wished that Sigma would release a new version. Although, I guess the 18-35mm A lens fills that gap.

Sigma do have a 20mm f/1.4 designed specifically for Astro work. It gets very good reviews.

I own the rather expensive 18–35 ƒ1.8, but as I just see, it's "only" DC

On the one side, I'm very content with that lens since many years. It's my working horse. But also there are situations, where pictures are not as sharp as I did expect even with ≥ 1/160 sec. and stopped down.

In the other side, I'm of the opinion, that for real "astro photography" you will need tack sharp prime lenses, not zooms. Even more for the mathematics in astro. Zoom lenses are for "picturing the night sky" ...

Re: Sigma 15-30

Probably a good question is can the lens go on the adapter to mount on L bodies. A more likely use for me is when the volcanoes which are in temporary pause start again can the  15-30 be used.
