Re: Magnetic Waterfalls

I'm all in on #1 one as well.  Great composition P645.  For sh-ts and g-ggles I took that image into Luminar 4 and in less than a 1 minute adjusted the shadows and a little contrast.  It looked really nice.  You could frame that one for sure.

Thanks for the comment, Desi. Feel free to post your version here. I'd like to see it since I wallowed this one around a good deal, back and forth in PP till it seemed I was stuck and not making any further progress...................Larry

Hi, Larry... I think on some days my eyesight isn't up to snuff and I fail at my post-processing attempts. I'm sure yours far excel mine.  Your image didn't require much and, after all, isn't art and music subjective?  Here's my stab at it and, once uploaded, it may look just like your posting.  We'll see....  Brad

It is indeed, but I think you're right on this one. Opening up the shadows shows more detail and color. I was more focused on highlighting the falls themselves. PS - If you like L4, give Neo a try.........Thanks, Larry

Remarkable how many interpretations there can be on an image. Fortunately, it takes some clicks on a computer screen for us versus Adams et.al. laboring away in a darkroom for days. What could he have done with our tools?..........Larry

Lovely photos, you are very lucky to have so many beautiful waterfalls where you live. My magnets are trees, telegraph poles and electric pylons

Re: Magnetic Waterfalls

Larry... The more I looked at the one I adjusted and posted, the more that I thought "Did I repost Larry's original?"    I had to go back and do it again for my own mental health minute. HA!  I didn't mind opening it up again because you took such a nice shot.

As for Neo... I have a love-hate relationship with Luminar as they've quit supporting tablet use. Meaning, I don't have scroll bars ever since their Luminar AI 1.5 update. Their answer: "We never officially supported tablets."  Wow.  So, I still use Luminar 4 and recently bought On1 Photo Raw because they don't require a subscription - which is something that Skylum (Luminar Neo) has dipped their toe into. Not a fan.

As for what I did in Luminar 4... Shadows/Highlights, a bit of AI Enhance, a dash of Structure (not really necessary) and very little Detail adjustment. As you know, all of that takes about 2 minutes... maybe.

Regardless, thanks again for posting your images. I wish I had the guts.  Merry Christmas, Larry.  (Brad in Alaska)

Re: Magnetic Waterfalls

Thanks again, Brad. I loathe the ubiquitous software subscription push also, that's the reason for ditching Adobe years ago. I have paid-up Neo, which has great masking capability and much enhanced functionality over prior versions. Folks like to hate on Skylum, but for me it's easy, fast, economical and packed with powerful tools. Some of the new add ins look good as well but are getting pricey.

Have a go at posting. The landscapers among us that fantasize about making the nearly 10,000 mile Alaska trek would enjoy seeing what we are missing :-). Best wishes for the holidays.........Larry
