Interesting still life.  Tell me about your choice of background, subject, and lighting...

Thank you Ken. These tulips were given to us by visiting friends. My wife put them in an old vase and I placed said vase on a black fabric with a vertical section behind it, stuck in the top drawers of a dresser. I used the available light and adjusted the black slider during development to hide the wrinkles in the fabric.

Thanks!  It's great to hear the back story for a great photograph!

Black backgrounds are interesting.  I think (probably a minority view?) that they're over-used, and detract all too often from the subject, but in your case, it works well, and may have been your only choice.

I could have used a fabric  with a different color, but it would have been much more difficult to make the wrinkles disappear.

Re: Tulips

I think the black background works with the orange flowers. Black/orange being somewhat of a "classic" color combination. Everything is in focus.

Nice shot.
