Panasonic 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 - a useful, tiny lens
14

I'm celebrating my 7th Christmas Season with this lens. I purchased it to be an everyday, general purpose lens.

I use both the GX7 and GX8, which I like for the flip out LCD - useful when photographing in vertical position at chest/waist level.

The camera and tiny lens fit easily into a small shoulder bag.

It's a nice compact system to carry out in public, such as our Farmers Markets.

I've photographed a series for my web site. Often I make a print for the vendor.

A few different uses for this:

Water drops on an Arroyo Lupine

In camera Monochrome

A local church. Stained glass windows are a favorite subject.

I've photographed a series of houses in my town painted white with black trim - a project that began when considering this color combo for my own house.

The annual Mission Inn Festival of Lights in Riverside, CA. This hotel is an historic landmark.

The main lobby

One of the dining rooms where the famous "Roosevelt Charge Up San Juan Hill" painting hangs. I was able to be there before it opened for dinner, but had to photograph looking through a wrought iron gate.

One of several stone sculptures. "Glenwood" was the original name of the hotel. "Come on in, this is your house, friend."

There are several beautiful shrines.

One of many cute, distinctive shops along the pedestrian mall out side of the Mission Inn. This used book shop began in 1979, still operated by the original owner.

A favorite eatery. 20+ years in this location along the mall. A photograph of the front/back of the Christmas card I created to give the owners.

It's a fun lens to use.

Re: Panasonic 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 - a useful, tiny lens

Ya know, it's kind of a funny lens.  I have faster and closer-focusing and wider and more telephoto lenses, and lenses that I think have better IQ.  But I think is use my 12-32 most of all.

It lives on a Lumix GX850, and before that, a Lumix GF7, and before that an Oly E-PL3. It's my tiny companion and it's about four feet from me right now. I think it's a pretty useful range, and because of its size is really easy to carry around.  It also has OIS, not common in a pancake and really handy on little Lumix bodies without stab.

I hear they occasionally fail and I've also heard they don't make 'em any more; I've got my eye out for another one at a bargain price, just as a spare. Id be pretty sad if I didn't have one.

A lens which is always on my G85 nowadays.

I have 2, a silver and a black version, that are kit lens set of GX85 and GX850.

Mine is pretty darn sharp. I have a 12-35/2.8, and the difference in detail is hard to make out, even at the edges.

Fabulous lens!  I currently have 2 and one lives on my GX850 with an automatic lens cap on it - complete point-and-shoot package.

The older one had the "slippy ring" problem which I fixed with double-sided tape per the tutorial on this forum some years ago.  Still going strong!

The 12-32mm lens is a strange gem in the lineup. So small, cheap, light, and still, very, very competent.

I have used it for a long time. I usually bring it on holiday, as it is so small and easy to carry. It is also very unobtrusive, in the sense that noone would be scared when you show up with such a minimal lens.

I have made a comparison here with some other lenses:

Love this lens.  The 12-32 has a cult following for good reason.  The "soft feathery bokeh" fetishists don't appreciate it, and that's OK.   This is a DOF lens.   It's not just useful--there's a character to the rendering.  The dreaded phrase "3-D pop" also comes to mind with the 12-32.   The manual zooming is another of its sterling qualities.  I really loathe the EZ zoom trend.

Mines a good copy too but I think my 12-60 kit lens is even a smidgin better at the same FL`s.

Obviously from variations in copies of the same .

Regardless ,I`m finding all these Lumix kit lenses as good and even better than my former Fuji kit lenses which were darn good.

Actually I`m really impressed with this 4/3rd format  and  MFT lenses.

This lens is a gem if you get a good copy, very sharp at the wide angle and sharp enough at the long end, there is "3-D pop" to this lens, awesome for the price ...

I agree.

I used a 12-35 f/2.8 but could not bond to it. The focal length is fine, and the files are wonderful, but the lens just felt too bulky for my use as a walk-around general purpose lens (partly because of it being f/2.8 which I don't need.)

Also, the camera/lens wouldn't fit into my nice small bag that I showed in my first post, and I had to use a larger bag.
