Am I the only one that thinks like this?

So I got an M200, but I didn't really need the M200.

I already have the M3.

I'm more interested in the 15-45mm kit lens that came bundled with the M200.

But I figured that "hey, the lens itself cost 1/3 the whole kit, might as well just get the kit".

Afterall, you get an M200 too with it.

Total damage about $355.

I don't really understand the problem.

Obviously, you've got a capable camera (M200) with a - depending on the copy variations - probably good standard lens. Both for a very competitive price.

To my mind, the M200 will offer better AF, better IQ and a better color rendering than your M3. At least, this is my experience, since I tested the M3 before my M6, and I have a M100 as a second body.

I didn't really NEED... [the M200]

Words uttered by those afflicted by G.A.S.

And there are many of us.  I've accumulated unneeded gear myself throughout the years and now I'm really paying for it by exerting time, energy and effort to get rid of them.

Not really a problem really, I'm just lamenting the fact I was looking for a lens and got a whole kit bundle instead.

And yes as you pointed out, I'm looking forward to the M200.

The M series appeals to me due to its form factor.

I always tell myself this is my last purchase. Never works out that way though.

My thinking was the opposite:

I got an M200 recently on the refurb sale, and it came with the 15-45mm kit lens like yours did.  But I wanted the tiny body, and it “came with a lens.”  Now I have two 15-45 lenses.

Like others have said:  More gear.

I’m telling myself:  Less gear - More photography!

Buying a kit to get a good discount on a lens is not that unusual.  There are even some resellers who just split kits and resell the individual pieces for a small profit.  Now, taking this route to specifically pick up a copy of the 15-45mm?  That is quite unusual.

I see no problem here at all.  I’ve been considering pickup up a second hand smaller form factor M camera such as the M100 or M200 to use an an everyday carry camera with my 22mm lens. As good as smartphone cameras are getting, there’s nothing like using a real camera with a large sensor and a decent lens.

I would have gotten a M6 mk II kit with 18-150, unfortunately there was none available so I got one with 15-45 so now I have 2 copies of that lens.

Of course you "need" the M200. 😄

The M200 is a much better camera than the M3. Maybe not in ergonomics, but it has much better AF and is faster in operation because of the newer prosessor.

Also the M3 has a focus frame the size of Africa while the M200 has the "spot focus" frame the size of a neutron. (Yes, a little exaggeration here , but it feels almost like that.)

The colors are to me also much better (but that is of course very subjective).

It was just suppose to be a lens purchase, but I saw a small deal on the m200 bundle. So might as well

I forgot to add:

You should also add the EF-M 22mm f/2, if you don't already own it. It's the perfect match for the M200 IMO.

(Refurbs for $119.00 @ usa.canon.com right now.)

At the end of the day, it's the output that matters. The M3 may be slower in operation or focusing but the images are great.

But I do agree with you, the focus frame is quite big as I'm use to smaller focus frame, but it hasn't hindered me focusing on subjects.

Yes definitely on the wish list but waiting for a price drop. We don't get such deals where I'm at, it's double the price here.

That is a pretty expensive way to pick up a copy of the 15-45mm if you had no use for the M200. MPB has about a hundred of them for sale for far less than a quarter of what you paid for your kit (£55, $52)

I didn't.  jackwelch does not list their location in their profile, but they frequently post in US dollars and British pounds. I am sure jackwelch can do the conversion if they are not in one of those two countries.

I have two m's, m and m100. Your M3 got the better build quality of all m cameraes?

The original kit lens is also nicer than the new.

The M200 got the best tech. With the old lens You will get the best pictures.

What?  The M and M2 were the most solidly built models in the lineup.  The M3 was a major step down in build quality.  The M100 and M200 are a further step down, but it is understandable given the much lower price point.

Depends on your copy.  There are a lot of bad copies of the 18-55mm out there too.
