Weekly Theme Show# 2 December 14-20, 2022

Since noone else made a suggestion, I'll offer one:

This week's Theme is:

Photograph something that starts with the letter R.

red, ruby, rhubarb, regatta, ricotta, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (that's three right there).

"Anything goes in this thread (as long as DPReview's general standards are not violated): any camera; any subject; any post-processing; etc. Recent images you have created in the past week or two are much preferred but not required. A little background on where, how and why you made the image(s) you posted would add interest. By posting here, you are inviting constructive criticism and general discussion of your images. Please share your expertise by providing constructive criticism on photos others have posted."

A person may enter the Theme Week as many times as they want, but please limit your photographs to no more than 4 (four) photos at a time.

Rainbow and Rundle (2019). I captured this image in Banff national park at the pullout on the way up to Mount Norquay. There is a bald patch (usually referred to as the "green spot") which gives an overview of the Banff town site with Mount Rundle on the left and Sulfur Mountain on the right. Some storms were passing over the day we arrived and we were treated to this view in the late afternoon, with sunlight streaming through the valley creating beautiful patchy light and rainbow. Taken with my 5DIV + 24-70/4. Nothing special in terms of technique or processing, just cropped to a 2:1 pano aspect and light editing (this is a realistic rendition of the scene).

Red-winged Blackbird
2

A little over a month ago, I saw this male red-winged blackbird.  I had to take a picture of it with whatever settings I had in the camera.  For seconds later, the bird took off.

From a recent visit to KSC. Pano assembled in LrC from maybe 8 exposures. There's some distortion that I couldn't fix (rocket don't appear quite straight). I'm happy with the image. KSC was high on my bucket list.

...Rain. And more rain. Not flooding, thank God but if we don't get any more rain I'll be happy. Then again, I like dry.

That's inches, by the way, and just overnight. I already emptied a little more than that out a day or two ago.

Something round

I took this at f/7.1 in Av mode and Auto ISO at 5600K and a flash since I was indoors. The camera set a shutter speed of 1/64 and an ISO of 1600.

I thought the snowmen would be a nice touch since it's Christmastime.

The little black dot is a smudge on the wall.

This is cropped and rotated a little to straightened it out. I took it at an angle so the flash would not reflect off the plates, but it still did a little over on the left hand side.

What are we looking at here?

That's a beautiful bird.

What kind? Where? What's he doing, do you know?

Re: Reflection......

Hi stevet1,

It's a little Egret, in the Looe estuary fishing. In bright Sunlight conditions like this they'll create their own shade with their wings in order to see the fish.

Little Egrets are similar looking to your Great white Egrets but are much smaller.

something red

I drive a Jeep.

When you drive a Jeep, the journey IS the destination.

Getting there is as much fun as where you're going.

Other drivers do not understand or like this.

They have a need for speed and "getting there" as fast as you can.

Yesterday, I went to the grocery store.

When I came out, this was stuck to my windshield:

Spread the Love.

Love this Steve. I had a 17’ Jeep Wrangler until my legs gave out, couldn’t climb in and out of it easily anymore. Thousands of miles in the desert, I really miss it. It is a “Jeep Thing” for sure.
