This is one of those questions that I think only you can answer.

You will get almost the identical pictures from either setup. The X-Pro 3 with the 23/1.4 will be considerably heavier and larger. But of course you’ll be able to use other lenses with it. So this decision is mainly down to your size/weight tolerance and need for interchangeable lenses.

The beauty of the X100v is it’s small size with great picture output. I’ve never been attracted to the X-Pro3. It’s a beautiful looking camera but the inward facing LCD would quickly get on my nerves I think. Plus, the small film indicator LCD on the back is reportedly failing for some users over time. I don’t know if this is a widespread problem or not. It may be too rare a problem to be significant. Do check it out.

Why trade and pay more for the same focal length and sensor?  Looks like you have the XT2 so you already have a body with interchangeable lenses.  If that's a driving factor I'd personally chose a different body or spend the $500 towards a lens.

If you compare the market value of the different setups I think you would be close to breaking even at best.  As mentioned the xpro 3 has a bad reputation for the rear display's ribbon cable breaking.  The current 23 1.4 is supposedly better but the original had a lot of IQ variation.  If you are really interested in the xPro3 and the lens I'd make sure I could drive before I buy.

Don't shoot me, just sharing the X-Pro3 info below that is already out there re a class action lawsuit. Not commenting on the suit's merits, as I do not own the camera.

I have a X100V and a XT1 for my interchangeable lens options, I chose the X100V over the X Pro 3 when I upgraded because I wanted the lighter weight, smaller easier to carry form factor, the leaf shutter that is almost silent and can synch with the built in fill flash at much higher shutter speeds, the ND filter is useful for things like waterfalls etc ... not to mention the extremely good looks of the X100V. In my opinion FWIW the X100V is already a classic but I doubt the X Pro 3 ever will be. Think do you want to carry around a body, multiple lenses, filter, flash etc.  Just my opinion, in the end it is your decision.

If you want more quality: absolutely. new 23 1.4 is far superior than f2 of x100v.

If you need a cam just to bring with you sometimes and shoot some pics probably not. You can save your money.

Price: real price of x100v without stupid tik tok hype would be 1100-1200. Price of x-pro3 without supply crisis about 1400-1500. Price of 23 1.4: 800/900.

So you would earn about 1200$ with the tik tok follower. The choice is your, what you want to do with a cam...anyway now it's the best moment to sell an x100v...February could be too late.

Re: Fair trade? X100V / XPro3

The X-Pro3 is my favorite X camera of all, after having shot with the x-E21, X-M1, X-T1, and X-Pro2. I've loved the X-Pro3 for 3 years and haven't had any problems.

In my view, it provides the retro "magic" that other X-cameras only aspire to. I shoot everything from the 14mm prime to the 70-300 zoom on it. You always have both the OVF and EVF option with it, just like with the X-100 series.

I wouldn't pay much attention to problems people mention about it unless they are mentioned by people who have actually spent time with the camera.

Agree. Anyway I feel x-pro2 more solid, something like a brick, respect to x-pro3. Probably because it hasn't a flip display, don't know.

In all reality, I’m not familiar with Fuji launch timelines but given that XPro3 and x100v are 2+ years old when do you think we can see the next step to the series of cameras?

I had the X100V and have the X-Pro3 and the XF 23mm f1.4 LM WR.

The X-Pro3 is made to a higher standard and you can feel this when using both cameras. The dials feel more robust on the X-Pro3 and the ergonomics are superior. When it comes to the lenses, the XF 23mm f1.4 LM WR is optically superior to the lens on the X100V and has a quicker and quieter AF motor.

Saying all of the above, the X-Pro3 setup will undoubtably be larger, though that didn’t bother me as I found that i needed a bag to carry both cameras anyway. I sold the X100V as it just didn’t feel as nice to me in the hand. It’s closer in build to the X-E4, which isn’t a bad camera either, but isn’t on the level of the X-Pro cameras IMO.

Honestly, if it was me I would bite their hand off for that trade. The X-Pro3 set up is superior in every way other than size.

Just to add, you have to be sure you like the hidden LCD. Some people just cannot get used to it, but for me it is by far my favourite rear LCD implementation. I only use the rear LCD for waist level shooting and its safely hidden when not in use.

Is it fair money wise? Definitely. Is it what you need? Only you know. Even though I generally prefer smaller size, the X-Pro is my favorite camera. I'd do the trade.  That said, others warning you of the LCD ISSUE IS TRUE.  If you plan to use the screen a lot, do not do this trade.

I spend a lot of time with my X-Pro3 and I had the issue.  Your day will come.  It is not wise to tell other not to think about an issue that is reality.  If you use your LCD on the X-Pro3, it will fail.  I no longer use mine after I had it fixed.

Price-wise, it's fair. Use case...If the 23mm is going to be your everyday walkaround lens, I wouldn't. You're paying $500 + a lot of extra weight for a single stop of light that you may not always be using. The weight tax on f/1.4 lenses gets annoying quick; I like how small the X100 series is.

To be fair, it isn’t only the 1 stop of light. The biggest improvement i found was the AF performance. The LM motors in the new XF 23mm f1.4 are a lot quicker and quieter than the motor in the X100V lens, which feels archaic in comparison.

You have to also consider that the X-Pro3 has a better grip, which offsets a little of the weight increase.

My two cents...buy an used x-pro2, IQ is about the same (and better in low light), you pay an half and you have the same results. I know x photographers who show them in spots with x-pro3 and make the job with the x-pro2. Said that, x-pro3 is a great camera but I never found a good reason to change my pro2. OVF is better but it lacks of the wide options, AF is a bit better (in AF-C). Probably the only two things I really like are the sim classic-neg and the flip screen for shooting from the hip (that I usually do). Now for the shooting from the hip you have to use flip screen...and if it has issues...don't know, I never found a good reason also if I like it. Probably I'll wait x-pro4.

I didn't advise not to think about reality. On the contrary, I advised to pay attention only to those who had experienced such a reality, like yourself.

No.  Not all. The x100v is worth much more af the moment.  I did the same deal last summer 21, for no cash on my side.   I just sold the xpro3 for 1500.  Sell your x100v and then trade.

Looking at your gear list you'll end up with a more versatile and rounded setup unless you truly value the size difference.  The overall cost seems more or less fair.

Dude?  I'm not Dean Martin in Rio Bravo!

I think my point remains, you'll gain a backup camera for a good lens collection and the only thing you'll lose is money and a very small camera if needed.
