Wood Ducks and the White Cat
1

At the end of October I was out for a walk on a cloudy day. I saw this white animal. I wasn't sure what it was until I zoomed in. This cat followed the ducks. Some of them were wood ducks. I don't know if the cat was just curious or was looking for a meal.

Photo No. 1 - OK here we begin.  I started the walk towards this pond.

Photo No. 2 - Here is the pond.  Normally this time of year, the colors would have been better.  But we had a warm early autumn.

Photo No. 3 - And here's the white animal.  Oh, it appears to be a large cat.

Photo No. 4 - I needed more zoom, so I used the camera with the Canon 55-250mm lens.

Photo No. 5 -The cat did everything to get close including walking on this stick, but I don't think it wanted to get wet.

Photo No. 6 - They all wandered further away and then I got more interested in these wood ducks.

Photo No. 7 - The wood ducks were on the opposite side.

Photo No. 8 - I could not get any closer and I didn't have my Tamron 150-600mm lens with me.

Photo No. 9 - So this was about as close as I could get.

Photo No. 10 - The next time I did bring the Tamron 150-600mm lens but they were hard to photograph.  I'll have to remember to bring the large telephoto lens with me each time in case I get another opportunity.

Re: Wood Ducks and the White Cat

Hi Digirame,

The scenery and colours are beautiful. The ducks don't look all that worried about the presence of the cat, they must know they're safe.

Dig,

I think the ducks know that too.

Mpcha,

Those are really nice pictures of the frost.

Do you know what the yellow fruit is?

Thanks.  The ducks are much more afraid of the peaceful photographer...go figure.

Thanks for the reply. That white color stood out. That made me notice the cat right away. It was rather large too.

Re: Cold and frosty.

These are some of the best colors of frosty fruit and leaves that I've ever seen.  Wow...you did great.

Nice!

I live in a slight valley, so I didn't get much snow.

Re: Wood Ducks and the White Cat

Cool ducks Digi.

I read somewhere that white cats don't catch so many garden birds, because the birds can see them coming.

Re: Cold and frosty.

Hi stevet1, Thank You.

The Red/green leaves in front of the fruit were not a part of the fruit bush that was behind. My guess is that it is a plum, some variety's are grown as small shrubs and have the yellow colour such as 'Mirabelle Plum Gold'.

Hi Digirame, Thank You.

I enjoyed a walk around with my Tamron macro lens on my 70D and all the frosty 'potential' pictures to be had.

Thanks.  That makes sense.  I noticed the white shape very far away.  It was rather large.  I wasn't sure what it was at first, but it was definitely noticeable.

What events or world affairs were they discussing? What is that in the background on the right side?  That's neat that you got it at ISO12800.  It's amazing how good it is, especially for a crop DSLR camera.  I wonder how much better a full frame camera would do?  Some day, maybe I'll get one...never know...unless we try them.

Dig,

A wide range of topics.

That's a throw rug/coverlet that you throw over the back of a couch. It's called, "Dickens Christmas Village".

I put in some practice with a tripod and turned the lens IS off. This camera handles ISO's of 12800 extremely well.

I read an article the other day that said, "Indoor photography is the bane of every photogapher's existence."

The lighting and white balance will drive you crazy.

I believe it.

Re: Cold and frosty.

Hi Dunlin, Thank You.

I was happy that it hadn't snowed at that stage as snow can totally cover your subject but the frost was deep enough to get the effects I wanted.

Digirame, what do you think about the old custom here: if someone is asking for C&C (comments and critique) from anyone, let add an asterisk at the end of subject ?
voluntarily, of course.

Just a suggestion
