Is Optical Stabiliser on Sigma DG 150-500 1:5-6.3 APO HSM working?

Hi, sorry if this is a daft question but is there a definitive way of checking whether the Optical Stabiliser is working on this lens.

The instructions say

Press the shutter button halfway down, confirm the image in the viewfinder is stable then take the picture. (It takes approximately 1 second to produce a stable image, after pressing the shutter button halfway).

With the switch in position 1 there is an extra clunk from the lens but I do not see anything different through the view finder. Should I be able to see the image stabilise?

I am using it with a Canon 600D.

Thank you for your help.

I would think that unless you have a particularly steady handhold, you should see a difference in the VF at 500mm when using a slower shutter speed particularly.

Have you tried actually taking a few shots with it ? I would guess the easiest way would be to take a few shots (handheld) of a static subject with IS on at ±125th (or even 1/60th) and then repeat with IS turned off - then compare them - there should be a difference.

Thank you. I did the test as you suggested and can clearly see the difference in the viewfinder and the resulting images.

I think my doubt came from trying to capture my daughters puppy which is moving to quickly for the image stabiliser to work effectively as the lens is never still long enough.

Thank you for your help.
