X-M1 questions

I have had my very secondhand X-M1 for many years. I have always used it with lenses that lack apeture rings; primarily the original 27mm and sometimes the XMFL body cap lens. With these lenses, I usually shot in Aperture priority and changed the aperture with the one dial.

Well, now my much loved Little Monster has gotten an upgrade. I just bought the TTArtisan 27 mm f/2.8, and while it is currently having tryouts on the X-T10 and X-T2, I imagine it will settle on the X-M1. Meanwhile, the 27mm mk2 is on there and I have been enjoying my first experiments with an aperture ring on this camera.

I have never had a manual for the X-M1-- it has always just worked for me. Now I'm a bit baffled. Is there any way I run it in Manual +Auto ISO with aperture controlled from the ring and shutter speed from the single dial? Or can it only handle one direct input in a time?

Or do I just need to download the manual.

Re: X-M1 questions

Does this help, from page 122 of the manual?

Auto-ISO doesn't affect the shutter speed.

The manual is available here .

Re: X-M1 questions

Try switching the dial to controlling shutter speed. The aperture ring should take care of itself. Just a guess. If this doesn’t work, try the lens firmware update from TTArtisan. I read their notes on it, and remember something about adapting the lens to work with older model cameras.

Re: X-M1 questions

That's exactly what I am trying to do. If worse comes to worst I will (shudder) consult the pdf manual. The new lens itself is working fine on the X-T10.

Working like a charm

I have the upgraded Little Monster working perfectly in Manual +Auto ISO with the 27mm WR. It took me a while to get my head out of the rut that the top dial is exposure compensation and the back dial is the one you use to change things. In Manual, it seems, if one is using the aperture ring to control the aperture, the top dial is your shutter speed. Easy peasy, though it required taking fresh look at a very, very familiar camera. Which is fun in its own right.

Thanks for the help and advice.
