A few things first:

- you'll get better answers if you provide an example

- you'll get better answers if you provide technical details with your answer

- Zerene's developer runs an excellent macro site and is quite responsive to user problems: https://www.photomacrography.net/

Here is one of the offending photos.
It is full frame with a 60x objective with about 65 stacks at 1um each.

That’s a ‘natural’ result of any of the stacking programs… where ether bad luck/bad lighting applies.

In (utterly over )simplified terms it is s series of highlights -usually out of focus - whose optical size changes as you move the camera. They become ‘developed’ as ‘stripes’.

You will see them often.

to try to avoid (1) leave a lot of space around your subject (2) try to ensure there is nothing in view (especially bright) anywhere around your subject.

To example this: assume your subject was fully ‘within’ a sliced table tennis translucent ball, so only the subject was in view, together with a little bit of out of focus but lit white ball. None of the edge of the ball comes into view as you move slices. There is effectively nothing in the background now to show up as individual specs that will develop into stripes. The pin (eg) holding the subject can stick through the back of the ball, entirely out of sight.

Hope some help

Thank you Les for you lengthy reply.
I can see what you are saying.
This Green Iridescent Jewel Beetle has the very problem you describe so I have to live with it, but now understand.
