Canon T5i hunting for focus when self-videoing

I recently bought a used Canon T5i to use for videoing myself for YouTube and similar applications. I am a long-time user of the Canon 50D for photography so I am generally familiar with the Canon family, have a set of solid Canon lenses, etc.

The T5i is constantly hunting for focus when I am videoing myself. I have it set to autofocus on the face-focus mode, have the AF servo turned on, but once I get in front of the camera, it is constantly hunting for focus and making small adjustments. This happens no matter what lens I use and no matter how good the lighting (I have a couple of studio lights I use for my YT content). Also, it goes on no matter how long I wait; it's not like it just does it for a few seconds and then locks in. But the end result is that the video is unusable because of the nearly constant slight focus adjustments.

If I use another autofocus mode (one of the zone focus modes), then sometimes it works great if I try to lock focus on myself and then get situation. But often, once I change positions or get settled in to start talking, then the focus is off slightly...again making the video unusable.

I have heard a number of people cite the T5i as a good budget option to start as a YouTuber, so it must be working for them...making me wonder if something is wrong with mine. Just hoping maybe there is something obvious I'm missing?
