the EOS M is not dead and wont be for a long time ....as long as you don't want a flagship camera with a VF...if that's the case it died sometime ago

There is no argument for FF vs APS-c (or m43) with shallow DOF..as it's a law of physics and a very subjective personal thing if you want to make use of the shallow DOF only FF can offer

I know nothing about mk II but am VERY happy with plain vanilla M50.

M50 has eye AF in 1 picture mode.

M50 II has eye AF in servo mode too.

Re: AF M50 vs M50mkii

I'm happy that I got the mk ii. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but the mk i does not have the face/eye tracking feature when used in servo AF mode.

So for me it was worth paying the extra money. Even if I have to admit I didn't know the differences between the two cameras when I bought the mk ii, I just got a good offer...

M50II has one stop better AF sensitivity.

M50  -2Ev @ f/2

M50II -4Ev @ f/1.4

yes

if your applications need the extra / enhanced capabilities of the Mark II

https://mirrorlesscomparison.com/canon-vs-canon/canon-m50-vs-m50-mark-ii/

there are one of each in my family, and i have tried them — if someone asks me, i just say “get the M50 Mark II”

by the way, i still can create great images with my original M (slow, but oh, the colors)

Re: AF M50 vs M50mkii

There’s also an additional focus mode in m50 mk ii, the ‘spot AF’. It’s actually smaller than the single point AF mode.

Thanks

thanks  to you all for your replies. i was looking to replace my 10-year-old sons M2

but got a very good deal on a eos 77D and 15-85 so went for that ..partly as he liked the top display on my old 5D and i still have a lot of EF lenses  some of which he can have like the EF-s 24mmF2.8 and a Tamron 17-50F2.8 that i have misplaced for now..also the EF lenses can be used on a 90D and will adapt to a R10 so he has an upgrade path

very good — i like that 15-85

my son’s T6s (77D predecessor, with top LCD) still works great

after T6s and 77D, crazy Canon went back to “no top LCD” with T8i — likely the last Rebel
