Does my Minolta A2 have a power problem ?

Just got a DiMAGE A2 from ebay and it came with a genuine KM battery. Charged it fully and A2 came on fine. However after playing around for 5 mins and maybe 10 test shots, the battery warning indicator came on. Soon it just auto shut down completely. I thought it was just an old and bad battery. Tried recharging a few times more, same thing. Next I tried 2 different batteries I got before for my A1. But same thing happened to both batteries. I thought maybe my other 2 batteries were bad as well........I recharged all 3 batteries and tried them with my A1 and they worked fine and lasted a long time........Recharged all 3 and retried with A2 and all exhausted within 5 mins, but when I took the exhausted batteries out from A2 and put them in A1, the A1 showed full charges.

I now think the problem is not with the batteries, but with the power management system in A2. Has anyone seen this before ? Any simple fixes I can try ?

Another question. The A2 EVF is supposed to be close to 1 MP and should be significantly better than A1 EVF. However when I compared the 2, they really seemed to be about the same, no noticeable difference.

Did I just buy a bad A2 ?

I had the same problem with batteries not sure how they would work on another body didn't have one to try . Bought a couple of new ones off Ebay and they work great . As far as the viewfinder dont have an A1 but I have an A200 and the viewfinder of the A2 is alot better .

Try cleaning the contacts on both the battery and camera .

After nearly twenty years it's possible their dirty with a bit of surface corrosion.

That would restrict power getting through to the camera enough for it to register as a flat battery.

Use a pencil with an eraser on the end to reach the contacts in the battery compartment.

Regards the EVF, there's not a massive difference between them other than marketing, especially compared to today's EVFs.

A2 viewfinder is definitely sharper than the A200 sharp enough to actually use it sometimes.
