Refurbished by Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens $99.00

Canon is literally giving away the Refurbished EF-S 55-250 mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens for $99.00. Add a Canon EF-EOS M Mount Adapter to your M camera, and you are off to the races with a great, light, and small, telephoto. It's not an M lens, but it let's in more light, and is 100 mm longer than the Canon M 18-150 mm, though it's not as wide. This price may not last long. I bought one for my m6 II, M50, and my 80D, last night.

Thanks for the heads-up. Mine just came, and it's IQ is decent. I didn't have a need for that lens, but for $99 it was irresistible.

You are absolutely right about this lens. The reviews are incredible. Check out the review of this lens by the one and only Christopher Frost: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5wZAvUmPUA

My lens arrived yesterday and my immediate reaction was that this lens is not only dead sharp all the way through, but that it produced great contrast too. Note that I also own the Canon M 18-150 mm, which is a good lens, but lacks that extra reach.

That is not even a picture of an EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM in the ad.

They sent me a STM lens though.

This ad had no picture at all but they sent me one that looks like new and works great.

At the same time as this ad ran.

That's the wrong link. That lens is the EF 85 mm 1.8 which is also a great, sharp lens, but not the one I was talking about. EF lenses are larger and heavier than EFS lenses and are made for large sensor DSLRs, though they will work on crop sensors and mirrorless cameras like EOS M with the adapter. This was the link I posted: https://www.usa.canon.com/shop/p/refurbished-ef-s-55-250mm-f-4-5-6-is-stm

I was just noticing some mistakes on the Canon website.

The picture in the link you posted is not a STM lens.

There was a mistake in the EF 85mm ad too ? No photo at all ?

We wonder why they can not develop RF-s lenses fast enough when it seems they struggle to maintain a website ?

I bought both lenses and both are like new and work fine.

I have the EF-S 55-250mm IS II lens that I use on my M50 and it is a lovely combo.

Would I notice a huge difference by getting the STM lens? I would presume that would mean the autofocus would be faster - is that correct? Are there any other advantages to "stepping" up to an STM? (Sorry for the pun, eh!)

The STM will focus closer is the main difference ?

Canon redesigned the optical formula for the STM version, and it is quite a bit better than the older versions.  The STM version is an all around  better lens in every regard.

You bought 3 of them!

I know there are a lot of people hoarding bodies on this forum, but now lenses?

It's a no brainer for $99.

Very versatile mount, i use my on my m43 gear as well.

Yes it's much better optically and motor is better for video, I sold the old version when I got the STM.

Can't go wrong for $99.

Where I'm at this lens goes for $330, I can't stress enough how lucky you are if you can get it at $99.

Received my second copy of the EF-S 55-250 STM yesterday. It was pristine (as have been all of my other purchases from the Canon Refurb store).

It's mounted on my R7 right now. My other 55-250 STM + 1.5x "T-Rex" (Larry Rexley Conversion) is strictly for my M6ii.

Price just jumped to $239.99 on the Canon website. If you missed it for $99.99 I am sorry.

Re: Refurbished by Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens $99.00

It’s still a great lens and good value at $240 refurbished or new $300

I adapted a 3rd party 70-300 from DSLR days for M use until it started to fail this year and I traded towards 55-250 STM early fall before the $99 fire sale price

The 55-250 is a little sharper at wider aperture, has less CA and quieter AF and IS.  It’s half the volume and 2/3 the weight.   I appreciate those differences each time I use the 55-250 STM.

Still looking for a replacement of my EF-M 55-200 I stupidly lost last year (too small I suppose).

55-250 STM price here is €329.

Sadly enough both have quit long MFD's making them less appropriate for butterfies and the like.
