"Anything goes in this thread (as long as DPReview's general standards are not violated): any camera; any subject; any post-processing; etc. Recent images you have created in the past week or two are much preferred but not required. A person may enter the Theme Week as many times as they want, but limit the photographs to no more than 4 (four) photos at a time.

This week's Theme is:

Photographs Taken From an Unusual Position

This could be sitting, crouching, laying down, hanging from the rafters by your heels upside down, standing on one leg, etc.

Here's my entry:

I took this photo wirelessly with a tripod mounted about one foot off the ground and using a Samsung Android tablet. The camera was a Canon T8i with a 55-250mm lens. The settings were f/16, ss at 1/100, ISO 5000.

It was about 90 degrees outside, and while the camera was out in the sun, I sat down in a camp chair in the shade about 20' away.

I called it, "Chicken's on the menu tonight".

Steve Thomas

P.S. please feel to offer a suggestion for next week. I'll pick someone at random.

Hardly that unusual of a position but I was laying on the floor shooting up for this photo of (the now gone) Charmin back in 2007. This was the first image I posted online... In retrospect, at least the bokeh was nice and smooth.

Len,

Sorry about Charmin. She looked like a cutie.

If you're going to have a first, I'm glad it was her.

Thanks. We adopted her as a rescue and the previous owner had already named her. She was indeed soft and squeezable.

I put my camera in to it's auto-timer mode and placed it into the dirt pointing straight up. It took a while to get the framing right, not being able to compose through the viewfinder. I had to gently push a couple of the flowers inwards to cover some big gaps. This was taken with my old Rebel XS (1000D) and kit 18-55 lens about 5 years ago, well after I had retired the camera, but it still works over a decade later.

I captured this image of a GBH while leaning over the side of a small footbridge, holding the camera at arms length, trying to compose looking down at the non-articulating rear LCD at an almost 90º angle. It was taken with my 5DIV and a 70-200/4 +1.4x extender (1/800, f/7.1, ISO100). In the original capture the shoulder of the bird was oof, but I had several frames with focus all over the place due to the janky way I was holding the camera. I focus stacked two images (one for the head and one for the shoulder) to create the final image.

Another angle, showing where the GBH was actually hanging out. I was standing on the bridge above, hanging over the side, to take the first image. I'm amazed the heron didn't take flight, given how close I was to it.

Mike,

You did a good job with your focus stacking.

Your post made me smile. In your original post, you said that the shoulder of the bird was oof.

I thought, "That's an interesting way to describe something."

It was only after I went back and re-read your post a couple of times that I realized you meant, out of focus.

Gotcha ! I thought that they are living, until my wife pointed me out, they are false.

She presented good eye more times to me, pity she doesn’t photograph.

Taken with a trail camera mounted low on a tree.  Always had fun with these cameras, even though the quality of the pictures was not spectacular, what we captured on them more than made up for quality issues.

Two bears, that loved licking this camera for some strange reason, caught snooping around near one of our hunting blinds in early July.
