Mini Challenge #600 - Christmas preparations

For many of us the next few weeks will be busy: shopping, setting up the Christmas tree or decorations in the house, hanging up lights outdoors, trying out a recipe, etc. There may also be some interesting sights in your neighbourhood or village/town/city.

Anything related to Christmas preparations is welcome.

This challenge closes on 23 December at midnight (Central European Time).

THE RULES:

You may enter up to three competition images.

Please reply to the FIRST (ORIGINAL) post only if you are submitting an entry and please remember to change the Subject of your post to display your name or picture titles.

Please embed your image in the thread; I'm not clicking on external links.

Any camera or time taken is eligible.

And a thread bump to encourage more entries.

My wife always put out a lot of decorations throughout the house.  I am continuing that tradition, even though I am probably the only one who will see it.

Re: Crandell's First - Mrs. Claus Making German Christmas Cookies

Thank-you!  My wife has been an amateur baker all her life, and loves Christmas baking, especially if the kids are coming for the holiday.   She has arthritis in her hands, and had been using a very noisy mixer for a number of years (a gift from our eldest).  I figured two years ago that she needed a better machine that would help boost the pleasure she gets from the baking.  I purchased a professional-quality mixing stand.  It wasn't top-of-the-line, nor very large and expensive, but it's a definite step up from what she was using until then.  She has used it extensively over the past two years.

As a reformed professional pastry chef, I would say you chose wisely. I've been using my Kitchenaid KS55 for over 30 years without a hiccup (if I am recognizing correctly -- perhaps hers is a step up). I used them professionally as well. This is nothing complicated, but it definitely brings out the joy of baking.

Re: Crandell's First - Mrs. Claus Making German Christmas Cookies

The photo dates to 2018 when we still had the 'screecher'.  We had a large family gathering to deal with in a few days, and the amount of baking (and noise) was almost oppressive.

I replaced it with a Wolf 'Gourmet' model in 2019:

Stand Mixer | Wolf Gourmet

I didn't expect purring from the mechanism, and this new machine makes noise.  But in terms of annoyance and screech, it's the hands-down winner.  Bigger bucket, too.

The KitchenAid product gets very high customer appreciation and loyalty, so I know they're generally a very good and robust product.  My wife's...dunno....I even took the cover off and spread around the grease to the barest-looking gears hoping to make it quiet.  The gears were clear of any metallic particles as far as I could see, and the grease didn't harbour any.  But, despite my efforts, it didn't work.
