More Halloween Pictures
1

I had heard from someone about more Halloween photo ops, so off I went to see what I could photograph. It was challenging to take these after the sun had set. But I like to explore what is possible. It's a learning experience. What I have determined in such low light conditions, is to open up the aperture more and shorten the focal length (to allow in more light and have great depth of field together). That means getting a lot closer to subject matter. Not everyone is comfortable with that with strangers, but I do...and have gotten some great next-to-impossible images from an inexpensive Rebel DSLR camera.

Last Saturday I took some images at F3.5 and ISO12800 at night with 18mm to 22mm FL and they came our pretty good in a small town (some although did not look good as the lighting was almost non-existent). The only light I had was from street lamps and from lighting from the stores...some from car lights and displays too.

The images I show here were nice but could have been a little better with what I have learned lately. I hope this information helps for those that want to do the same.

Photo No. 1 - First let's start with some cars. Here's one with a Halloween skeleton. We will see no more skeletons after this one.

Photo No. 2 - These low rider autos could be seen like this.

Photo No. 3 - Again....

Photo No. 4 - And again....

Photo No. 5 - People seemed generally happy and often posed for photos next to these cars.

Photo No. 6 - Again....

Photo No. 7 - One more time....

Photo No. 8 - Looking at the same car....

Photo No. 9 - OK, now some costumes....

Photo No. 10 - Some were quite colorful.

Photo No. 11 - Again....

Photo No. 12 - These people were just so happy.

Photo No. 13 - That some of them even danced in the street.

Photo No. 14 - I saw an angel.

Photo No. 15 - And someone floating on a cloud....

Photo No. 16 - And finally it got so dark, that the people and cars were getting harder to see. It was time for me to go home. Note how I pushed the ISO levels so high for some of them to achieve the results I was trying to get.

Some of my recent snaps

After the rain...

EF 50mm f/1.8 STM

Who's eating the birdfood?

EF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM

Some late autumnal colour...

EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM

And to finish off, a leaf, photographed with my 50mm f/1.8. The kit lens certainly can't do this.

All taken with my Canon 7D. Hope you enjoy them.

Re: Some of my recent snaps

It's neat to see rain drops when you can catch them.  I'm glad you enjoy the 50mm lens.  I like the squirrel and autumn colors too.

More Halloween Pictures - Thanks

Thanks. I did manage at least one more photo of the ladies dancing in the street. But it was a little soft. I was pushing the limits of this camera with ISO12800 and there might have been a little motion blur. I didn't have much time to take these photos as I was rapidly running out of light. But I was glad to have gotten a few.

Re: A Countryside stroll.

That's so neat to see the sunlight and the shadows that it creates.  Now it's becoming rare for us to have sunny days as one storm after another comes in.  We've had a little snow too in the valleys but it didn't last long.  I always like seeing herons; makes me want to go find some too.   You manage to find lots of fungi.  You will become the fungi expert.   The squirrel looks like it came from Oregon.  That's really nice and sharp.

Wood Ducks and Other Wildlife

Here's some pictures of wood ducks, a black bird and squirrel. I took these in early October when we had ample sunshine.

Photo No. 1 - I found it hard to get close to the wood ducks.  But I was able to find this one female.

Photo No. 2 - And a male....

Photo No. 3 - Here's where they like to hide out.  I need a canoe to reach them.

Photo No. 4 - I hope you like seeing another male Red-winged Blackbird.  I cropped it a little, mainly to get rid of a distracting element.

Photo No. 5 -And of course, I got to show a squirrel.

Re: Wood Ducks and Other Wildlife

Nice Digi... your wood ducks (male) look a lot like our mandarin ducks.

Wood Ducks and Other Wildlife - Thanks

Thanks.  They are similar.  From what I read there are some Mandarin ducks south of here in California.  It's extremely rare, but they have been seen in Oregon too.  Mocha does find the Mandarin ducks and shows them here occasionally.  Mandarin ducks are from Asia.  It's my understanding is that they escaped as pets and have colonized in areas outside of Asia.
