Is there a Pentax 645D lens to L mount adapter?

Wondering if there is an adapter that will enable me to use lenses from my Pentax 645D on my L mount Sigma FpL.

It would be good if there is one.

No such animal.

Someone a long time ago (perhaps in a distant land) took a 6x7 and put it on what if I remember correcctly was a Pentax digital and found that the lens was not as good as whatever the one he had.  His thoughts were that due to the large size of the 6x7 sensor it did not have to have the quality. If you post on the Pentax forum I would guess you would get a response.

Yes, though I have never used any of them, and it's very expensive. It also has optics to reduce the image circle (but improve the brightness and image quality . . . supposedly):

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1455806-REG/kipon_baveyes_p645_sl_0_7x_adapter.html

They call it a focal reducer and speed booster (as in the brightness of the image is greater at a given aperture, so it's like using a wider aperture . . . or a "faster" lens).

You can get a much cheaper adapter, with no optics in it, here:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/295148877992?hash=item44b83e78a8:g:pHAAAOSwKz5i6MKX&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4OUP53fw9IHARa1Kw0iNwqE2dobUdJ3Tm0fbT4SZwRltUSO%2BlVNf%2FGTci3OboiSGxB9wUrqaK1V9O03Z5oJ1sKsLVeV1rfIiI0qK5tID2VQT7HnLb0XqwNkpMgUY2uiOa7rf5Up8DsPoufyX6MCXDpPc%2FqlXhS7CtHURvHSfLu1dZTym%2BjW6uvNPXyqWHCGlvlTFRxWV8omtIbXSqIzDVOHErXkOcxALq0VlvqeERlNV6eclkyD4jif18pfyW7eojvfn2SSfOnaKsUAtyW%2B5cmz4X4UhvE6hlKpQFhqxoBRM%7Ctkp%3ABFBMgrnYiZth

These are not auto-focus adapters (no electrical connections at all, if I am not mistaken), so you'll have to adjust your aperture and focus manually.

I would agree to that: Making pictures in 8x10 inch doesn't need such clean and clear lenses as taking pictures with 12x15mm and Foveon sensor. Furthermore having a f 100mm lens for mediumformat in front of an APS-C sensor will heavily change values of focal length and aperture.

What are you TALKING about?!? The fp L does NOT have an APS-C sensor. It has a full-frame sensor . . . and who mentioned making 8x10 inch anything?

The Pentax 645D is a 39 MP camera, and the 645Z is a 51 MP camera. They both use the same lenses. Now what kind of lenses do they need?

That's useful to know, Scott, now that I have a set of manual focus Pentax 645 lenses. I'm currently using them on my A7Rii for tilt-shift and stitching. They are unbelievably cheap used.

With the Rhinocam Vertex rotary stitch adaptor I can shoot 100MP 46*46mm square frames which is fun.

In terms of image quality, the Pentax lenses are film era designs for the most part which means they don't have modern lens perfection at wide apertures but they are very good stopped down on medium format.

I own the Mamiya 645 variant. Since I bought it second hand, the price was ok (about 300€). Here are some test shots with the Kipon adapter:

David I have considered trying one of those, but the size makes me think I won't be happy with them. I'd love to see a shot from a longer lens, like a 135mm or 150mm, stopped down a bit (i.e. at f5.6), and of course shot from a tripod, using something like self-timer mode, with a decent shutter speed, like 1/30 or 1/60 second or faster, at ISO 100. Ideally the photo would be of a scene that is focused in or near the corners as well as in the middle (i.e. a cityscape from high up, or the side of a building, with grass along the bottom edge of the photo, showing at least a little of the foreground a few feet closer to the camera from the side of the building, just in case there is some field curvature, though I suspect there would be very little with a longer focal length lens).

I have a P645 150mm, roughly equivalent to 100mm on full frame on the Vertex.

Not sure where I could find a subject that matches your criteria.

I have this, the bottom edge might be useful. Download and process to taste:

Wow! That looks great! That lens seems to produce really good, fine detail. The details on the tip of that spire sure look good. I think the bottom edge might be a little out of focus, though it still looks pretty good. It's pretty close to the center, like the spire point, but the flaking white paint on the steeple sure looks full of fine detail. Do you have any idea how far you stopped down, when you shot that photo?

P.S. Is this the lens you have/had?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/115629471599?hash=item1aec0db76f:g:hMAAAOSwknxjP6VW&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4CsZEijQiptDANzyfAcgOMTawYNSHYhF30JHYt37AFTzEfxVjAbFTx2ouQSKOo2rsFOjlEZRgbMWgGeUqTizlAhtENsHAdtPlOUB3tCLx9aUvkahEmV1FCl%2FhG1itJSm%2BEaw1SweyAebyKLbZGMzvWAEh7tl%2F%2BZcbeiDXT6%2BIJbqh%2BSu%2FBtbKYG8D7fUDBSaZhksUyBXRTvMmekOV7Ob8x5Rf57kY1I8pVGOmzHQZR5VZj%2FJofX8jPSZxNf%2BuH7bCnRELcBSw7EVrlcA4K5Isn5eK5E%2B0lpNUxurekB0Asi%2F%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-LJv9meYQ

After looking through these, I feel like getting this one for landscapes:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/394362492807?hash=item5bd1d61787%3Ag%3AGpAAAOSwn9BgnG6A&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAoBDpFLHWMwpgdNJ3%2Fvv%2Bxrc1t3LUkAEO13LriF9bxwgp6GDx8v9UQ7eWeEH%2FilWa%2FZDAJwIQWpkarwOuW8iOp%2BS%2FyRxzIef8s9uN6AzCSKc52ZIgLCssVYaWiX%2F8vCOyQcpiFVF960n%2FgGy5j2rpsXTQ4ILjSwBhOAncGFYTlcr9BvBujAG77cj3FLDkOyCyHbRnIvaGYoSTctgWVe0Ka5c%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR_L_-NmeYQ&LH_BIN=1

I just wish the aperture had more than 8 blades. It only weighs 470 grams! I currently don't have a lens in 35mm focal length for my Nikon D810, and for landscapes I would use manual focus for critical focusing most of the time anyway.

I have mine for my GFX50s and for use with the Sony on a tilt shift adaptor or the rhinocam vertex. Not really thought of adapting it straight for full frame. For 35mm, I'm thinking of the samyang 35/1.8 eventually to replace my Contax G Zeiss.  But if I ever get a L mount camera, it's useful to know which of my existing lenses can be adapted.

I have just ordered one & will let you know in the new year how it goes.

I bought the adapter from an shop in Japan.  It was $AU200+, but I think it is worth it.  Being fully manual, the focusing/aperture setting reminds me of shooting on my old 4x5..  However, I get to use my Pentax 645 FA 75, 120 & 200 and the old but wonderful  Pentax A 150mm lens.  I use a tripod a lot so the workflow with focussing etc is not really an issue.

I had wondered what to do with the Pentax body & lenses and this adapter has given them a new lease on life.    I attached two photos - one taken with the Pentax FA120mm and another with a relatively new Sigma 105 F2.8.  They are both similar in terms of focal length & sharpness and the Pentax certainly holds its own with the more modern Sigma lens.  I tested all my other Pentax lenses & they are all similar in quality.  I am pretty happy.

SO many thanks for the sales tip!!

Re: Is there a Pentax 645D lens to L mount adapter?

Nice! Both photos look about the same to me, so I guess that old Pentax lens is about as good as the much newer, and very sharp Sigma macro lens, which is one of Sigma's best lenses, for sure.

Congratulations!

I wish I could get an adapter to mount my "new" Pentax 135mm f4 macro Super Takumar 6x7 lens on an SD Quattro H. I guess I'll just have to get a Nikon F mount to L mount adapter, and find myself an fp L. Then I'll have an adapter on an adapter. That should be fun.

I sometimes use 3 adapters together. Seems to work. Example: I have a Mir 38b 65mm 6x6 Pentacon 6 lens.  I have an Arax P6 to NIkon F shift adaptor. I use this with a F to Canon EF adaptor. I can then use any number of Canon-EF to mirrorless adaptors to mount this on Lumix, Fuji x, Sony or Fuji GFX including using tilt adaptors to convert it to a tilt-shift arrangement. Cumbersome and clunky, but works.
