Does the M50 MK2 EVF Sensor keep the camera awake?

Long time M5 user here. Biggest issue with the camera (and it's getting to the point I might get rid of my gear) is that if I'm using the EVF, the sensor on the back will keep the camera awake including IS if anything passes by.

This means that if I forget to turn off the camera by the switch it will essentially remain on until it drains the battery, especially if I put it back in the bag. My old 70D DSLR would go to sleep until I hit the shutter button to wake up. Does the M50 MK2 also have this issue?

Also, I've had issues with external flashes not always working with my M5. Did they eventually fix that on the new M50?

Put a little piece of black electrical tape over the sensor, then switch between the two manually.  You might also be able to program a button of your choice for switching (check the menu).

Well, the original M50 does not have this issue.

And I forget a lot of times of switching it off.

Well I'll be damned. That actually worked on my M5.

Now to figure out of the M50 is enough of an upgrade for people AF to bother upgrading or not.

Thank you

Re: Does the M50 MK2 EVF Sensor keep the camera awake?

I started a thread about this issue a few years back. I'm an M5 user. I got into the habit of turning the camera off before putting it in a holster, because the proximity of the holster lid to the evf kept it awake.

What drives me *really* nuts is the fact that the tilt sensor also keeps the camera awake. I use a wrist strap with mine, so it can tilt whilst I'm holding it and constantly wake itself. If there were a way to disable that I'd be very happy. I know a lot of people turn their cameras off routinely between every shot, but that never seemed natural to me, and I worry about the longevity of the switch.
