OM Lenses
3

My recently acquired OM primes came with a Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm f/3.5 (Kiron). I have to admit, I was stunned by its weight — at 928 g is is by far the heaviest lens I’ve owned — and couldn’t really see schlepping it around in my camera bag.

However, like many telephoto zooms of the era, it has a macro capability. You press some buttons, twist a ring, mumble something in Latin, and all of a sudden you can focus closer.

Coarse focus is achieved by moving the push-pull zoom mechanism. So, unless you have the closest focus (mechanism fully forward) or have the lens horizontal, it suffers from focus creep.

Anyway, bored at home today, I tried some macro on the OM primes. I spent a lot of time desaturating green and purple fringes in out-of-focus regions. I also had to fix some weird color shifts, which took orange distance markings in feet closer to red when they were towards the edge of the frame.

Regards,

Alan

Re: OM Lenses

I have used the vivitar series 1 70-210 macro zoom for years . Still have it and yes it's big and heavy but everything was heavy back then and we didn't know it or care. I've had it on most of the summits in the Teton range and countless miles backpacking and sea kayaking. That lens and a small 28 mm was my arsenal and I never knew I needed  more.

We've got a small backyard here in the city (near Toronto) but I love to hang bird feeders, and also put out unsalted peanuts for the various foragers that come by. Here's a few pictures of the birds we've had visit us so far...

All of these were taken with my Canon EOS M50 and an EF-S 55-2500mm IS II zoom lens.

A little Chickadee amazed by the world's largest suet ring (which my wife bought!)

Blue Jay with a peanut.

Dark-eyed Junko doing its thing (looking for scraps) under the bird feeders.

Cardinal doing a pose down on one of the bird feeders.

Same Cardinal showing off...

He really liked the camera!

Blue Jay pondering the future of 2023....?

Here's a few more picutures. Again, with the M50 and EF-S 55-250mm IS II...

Female (or juvenile?) Cardinal.

Mourning Dove in our Chokecherry tree.

Mourning Dove moved to the deck to look for seeds.

Blue Jay eyeballing the peanuts!

Okay, not a bird... but this is our favourite Grey Squirrel (named Audrey) that lives nearby.

I hear you. I’ll often go out with a longer and lighter version of that combination, the 55-250 IS STM on a 1.4x extender and the 24/2.8 STM.

Alan

Jedi Con
1

I attended to a Jedi Con that took place within a 100 year old movie theater

Although it was a Jedi Con, the first prize was awarded to a cosplayer of the dark side of the force

there were also some authorial cosplayers

All those pictures were taken mainly illuminated by the light sabers.
