Fujinon XF 200mm F2 OIS - worth it?

I have all the lenses I need and with the X-H2s and a X100v I have all the bases covered.

But…… the 200mm is an oddity it’s so much more expensive than any other Fuji lens big and heavy but supposedly spectacular performance but you rarely see threads about it, prob due to cost.

I could def. use the focal length and can cope with the weight occasionally.
but what are the thoughts/experiences of people who actually own the lens?

It's my favorite lens for sports, concert, and some wildlife photography. It focuses instantly and is very sharp wide open. Combined with the 1.4 is gives you a little more reach and it losses no sharpness or focusing speed.

Yes, it's expensive but I look at it as an investment in quality glass. I don't regret purchasing this lens one bit.

It is large and heavy, I can hand-hold the lens but I find it's a perfect lens for a monopod.

I got it when Fujifilm offered a 2000EUR cashback on the lens 1.5 years ago. Looking at alternative FOV options for FF it felt like a good deal. My 2 cts:

+ It's pretty spectacular, optically (see all reviews)

+ It's more versatile than one might expect. You can apply it for sports, wildlife, portraits, pets, landscapes etc.. But it's actually also really great for capturing smaller elements (with a caveat though)

+ The included 1,4 TC is pretty great - there's no loss of IQ honestly

- Big, heavy, though I think it's not so bad personally

- Shortest focus distance is a bit far with 1,7m, I need to get extension tubes to make it more useful for larger insects

- Distance to subject for portraits (which can be a plus if you are looking for unsuspected subjects)

In summary: if you are willing to bring it along, it will do great anywhere you use it. Also best to combine with X-H2s.

Check those flies around the mouth...

As close as you'll get

Renders colours amazingly

Foreground bokeh is OK

Tight portraits are pretty great

Background bokeh - subjectively not the best but there's a certain character to it

I don’t own one, but I’ve used one a fair bit. It’s an incredible lens in terms of sharpness and beautiful rendering of out of focus backgrounds. It’s a wee bit heavy for sure, especially towards the front of course and it benefits from a monopod for extended use.

Yes Polarcherry, I think it is worth it!

I have had this lens since it was introduced. I use it for wildlife and BIF. Of course, I use a longer lens for most of my birding but when I need a really fast lens this 200/2 with and without the dedicated 1,4x TC is a blessing. It is very sharp full open and I see no gain to stop down other than for DOF reasons. The bokeh is creamy and AF-C works well with X-T3/4.

I have not tried it with the 2x TC.  Fuji doesn't recommend this combo, but I have heard it could depend on that the border sharpness isn't that good, but maybe it is good in the center which counts much more for birds. Anyone that have tried this???

One of the best lenses ever made IMHO.The problem is just finding the right use for it.

The lens shines even more on the XH2!

I was really ready to come here and say no, it is not worth it.  I cannot imagine spending that kind of money on any lens really.  But I have to say some of the people here are happy with it and are using it well.  If you have the $ and do not need it for anything else, why not go for it?
