*** Mini Challenge #719 - H-o-r-i-z-o-n-t-a-l *** WINNERS

OK, Mini Challenge #719 is in the books! Not a lot of entries this time but some really cool shots as always! Let's get right to it:

Honorable Mentions...

dolivaw - This is an interesting take on "horizontal". I like that part of the story remains a mystery.

rjgjr - This one manages to be both horizontal and vertical at the same time! That is massive!

dunlin - There's a real variety of textures here, all in layers. Small, large, fine, coarse, smooth... Every one is horizontal and the subtle pastel colors are a nice addition.

Third Place

rjgjr- What can I say... I'm a sucker for a beautiful cat, plus there are diagonal (yet horizontal) lines everywhere! Meow... (plus, cats are infamous for their ability to get horizontal)

Second Place

rjgjr - On a roll! I'm also a sucker for ultra-wide panorama, particularly when they're of such a grand vista, receding off into the horizontal distance. The intermediate level clouds in between are nice.

First Place

dolivaw - This is just tool cool. Horizontal horizon and a horizontal digger with its head in the water (more or less). Brings up all kinds of unanswered questions.

So dolivaw is our MC winner - Congratulations! We'll all be waiting to see what your theme will be for our next MC.

Thanks for letting in other cameras, and thanks for choosing my photo.

Actually "horizontal" was harder than "vertical lines" theme!

About questions on photos, there was no mystery about that poor tree. There was a turning point and lorry driver streered right before turning and the tree went into the gap between horse and cart and got stuck there. The rest was only a fight!

And the digger, I am not sure what it was doing exactly, I share two other shots:

The soil was taken somewhere over there and deposited. Maybe they were removing this route from the sea.

I like this shot. I think the detail of the mud beautifies the whole image.

I watched a natural history documentary that was about limits of cats' vision and they had built a simulation of world as cats see. Now I feel like a cat here! I've learnt English only by books and dictionaries and I can't always get what is going on.

For example in this sentence of rjgjr: "LOVE THIS, been there done that, use to run heavy equipment", does "been there done that" mean "I have been there done that" ie he has experience of working with these vehicles?

Or in "use to run heavy equipment" what is the meaning of "use to"? I know "used to", but "use to"?

Feel free to laugh at my cat vision . Similar probable problems with culture!

So I think I am disqualified for running an MC. Besides, I can come in here at most 2-3 times a week. I should had entered as exhibit! OK, from the next one.

I will start a new MC in at most 2 days.

Your grasp of my "culture" and language is infinitely superior to my grasp of others!

What's old joke...?

  1. Question: What do you call someone who can speak two languages well?
    Answer: Bi-lingual
  2. Question: What do you call someone who can speak three languages well?
    Answer: Multi-lingual
  3. Question: What do you call someone who can't speak one language well?
    Answer: An American

I'm #3, by the way

No rush and there's nothing stressful about it. Looking forward to your theme.

I chuckle at Len’s joke, I think America’s grasp of the English language is hysterical, mine included. I’ve been out of school for some 50 years and most parts of my life show it, lol.

dolivaw, in the case of used and use, over the years I’ve dropped the “d” because it usually comes out silent, in my case anyway. Looking forward to your challenge.
