TTArtisan 25mm F2

I have an M5 with the kit lens, and since my eldest stepdaughter asked me what she could get me for Christmas, I suggested a TTArtisan 25mm F/2 lens, as I could use a small lens for walking around in dim lighting, and since it doesn’t cost much for her.

Anyone have this lens? What do you think of it? Can I use it in aperture priority mode? Also, I assume it works well with manual focus?

I don't have that particular lens or camera, but I've quite a few manual EF-M mount lenses. You need to go into the custom menus (only once) to enable Release shutter w/o lens or the camera will not take a picture. Av mode works as does auto ISO and the exposure compensation. Should be a fun lens.

Focus peaking is quick but I don't rely on it for critical focus. It gives a very generous indication of depth of field; with my Canon cameras I need to stop down two stops to match on A4 the depth of field it shows on the screen. Screen or viewfinder magnification is the way to go for critical focus if your subject doesn't move. I find scale focussing at f/5.6-11 quickest for snapshots, once I've measured to fond how precise the focus index is. The depth of field scale on the lens gives you an idea of how precisely you need to focus at each aperture. Initial scale focus refined by focus peaking and a lot of practice should be a lot of fun on dim lighting.

Re: TTArtisan 25mm F2

Thanks for letting me know about the shutter release setting.

I frequently use focus peaking with my kit lens in dim lighting, but I never had a good understanding of how accurate it may be. I plan on using this lens in dim lighting for the most part.

I do not have any reason to choose TTArtisan 25mm f/2 over Canon EF-M 22mm. I am willing to pay every single dollar for the latter.

But I’m not paying for it, my daughter is, and I know that money may be tight for her, and I’d rather receive a fun present!
