Pana 100-300 ii - Any negative experiences (on Oly cameras)?
1

Michael Meissner has in another thread informed about trouble he has had with the Panasonic 100-300 ii lens, due to insufficient weather/splash protection:

As I'm currently considering to buy a used 100-300 ii to get a weather protected long tele alternative to my current Oly 75-300, I wonder if anybody else have encountered this kind of problems?

In general I wonder if there are more factors to the equation of such a possible substitution other than:
- ca 100 grams more
- slightly faster (4.0-5.6 vs 4.8-6.7)
- a little less in the wider end
- weather protection
- stiffer price

??

Edit: The lens will normally be used on my E-M.3 body, and I believe that the O.I.S. of the Pana lens doesn't work together with a Oly camera(?).

I believe that there previously has been postings regarding comparisons between Oly 75-300 and the Pana 100-300 ii, but I can't retrieve any of those.

Links to such comparisons will be appreciated.

I saw a resolution test review of them and the 75-300 had higher resolution.

But that may have been the II of one vs the I of the other, not sure.

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

Ive been using one on my EM1iii, Its pretty good. I tended to use it for action and it was a OK. With the weather sealing, not too sure I'd trust it that much. I bought a Think Tank lens/camera rain cover that worked well - the medium one - costs about £35

Oddly enough I'm trading the lens for the PL 100-400. Sent it off today.

I guess it depends on what you need it for. It's noted that at the 300mm mark its a bit soft. Although you do get plenty of reach and from my reserach its generally seen to be better than the cheap Oly version.

Also, you're probably better off using lens stabilisation rather than in body. With an OLY body you wont get dual IS, although I believe that dual IS doesnt make a huge difference anyway.
