Ant ID

Small stuff looks so different when looking close.  A few of these tough looking ants in my Tucson AZ yard. Does anyone know what type of ants these are?  I know there are thousands of types of ants but maybe a category?

I love to see photos like that.  It looks like it is a large ant.

Where I live in Australia, I have often thought that nearly every part of Australia must be an ant nest.
