Not a kit Lens...
1

I purchased this lens about 15 years ago because I was so impressed with it's sibling the 28-105mm f3.5-4.5. This lens makes a perfect partner to the 28-105 because in my opinion, 28mm is not wide enough especially on a cropped-sensor.

Unfortunately, I was not really impressed when I started using it. The colors looked muddy and  the images were not sharp unless you got lucky. This was my first lens to go to eBay when things got hard.

I still own the 28-105 although its the second version, since I gave the first version to my niece who is just starting to get into photography.

I have other lenses including some 'L' series Canon lenses, but I wanted to complement the 28-105 (which I use now strictly for Film) with a wider angle sibling.

After looking at various lenses including the Tokina f2.8, I decided to give this lens a second chaance. I purchased an almost Mint version form Japan for about $150 including the shipping.

This lens not only looks great, the pictures are not bad either. I tested this lens on my Canon 6d  which does not have chromatic aberration correction and the pictures looked great !!

I did not see any obvious distortion, or CA, but maybe time will tell. I did notice a little wash-out on back-lit pictures, but that's about it. Also it's not the sharpest lens in the world, but sharp enough for casual photography.  Now I have a 2 lens kit that is light and compact and that did not break the bank. Loving it !

Chromatic aberration correction to me is done optically, and in my view, chromatic aberration correction done in software is not a correction at all, merely just a mask.

This is in regard to your comment about the 6D not correcting for the lens’s chromatic aberration.
