Male Red-winged Blackbird
2

Here's a few pictures of a male Red-winged Blackbird that I took about two weeks ago. I have more photos that I'll show later too.

Photo No. 1 - I had to be quick.  I saw the bird land here and I took it with whatever settings I had in the camera.

Photo No. 2 - I got another chance and then it flew away.

Photo No. 3 - Here's a crop of the above picture.

Re: Male Red-winged Blackbird

Hi Digirame,

Excellent photos of a blackbird, them and white birds are a challenge, good fun though when you get it right.

Male Red-winged Blackbird - Thanks

Thanks.  The lighting was just right for the dark colors.

Re: Along the river.

That scene with the blue sky is just lovely. That's a nice capture of the swan. The fungi looks quite gnarly. I don't think I've seen one like that. It's good to see you using the Tamron 150-600mm to capture the bird. That's excellent that you caught it grabbing the berry.

Re: Along the river.

Hi Dunlin, Thank You.

Lots of berries at the moment for them to chew on.

Re: Along the river.

Hi Digirame, Thank You.

Luckily for me we're still getting some decent weather where I am, although todays forecast is for rain all day.

With the swan I managed to get a deep blue background courtesy of the Sun.

The fungi was one of the largest I've come across, it was an unusual sight.

I still love the Tamron 150-600mm, it gets me photos that I would never consider without it. It's still worth the weight penalty.

Pumpkin Regatta
1

Here's some photos of a pumpkin regatta I took last October. People get in large carved-out pumpkins and race around in the water. I brought with me the Canon T7i (800D) camera with the Canon 18-135mm lens and the Canon M50 MKII with the Canon EF-M 55-200mm lens. I wished I had a longer focal length sometimes. I probably should have brought the camera with the Canon 55-250mm lens. Or maybe the Tamron 150-600mm....

Photo No. 1 - This is where the races were held at Tualatin, Oregon. It's a beautiful little lake and especially nice on sunny days like this.

Photo No. 2 - Before one of the events began, I walked around and found this very tall man. Other people walked around with costumes.

Photo No. 3 - This is where the pumpkins are before they paddled around the lake.

Photo No. 4 - Here's one I like with the white ducks and the yellow duck in the center. The large pumpkins are seen on the far left side.

Photo No. 5 - And another one of the yellow duck....

Photo No. 6 - OK, here we begin.

Photo No. 7 - Moving quickly around....

Photo No. 8 - They seemed to go rather fast.

Photo No. 9 - Here's a crop of the above photo.

Photo No. 10 - After all was done, it was time to dispose of these large pumpkins.

Photo No. 11 - Into the red bin they went. You can see the forklift on the left side.

Photo No. 12 - People enjoyed seeing these pumpkins up close.

Photo No. 13 - After the event I saw these little pumpkins for checkers.

Photo No. 14 - Some people played with this board game. It was a fun day. Everyone seemed to have a good time.

fun

I've never heard of a pumpkin rosetta before. Looks like great fun.

Great photos Dig.

I personally wouldn't feel comfortable taking photos of strangers (excluding the competitors) with a big conspicuous (speaking relatively) camera & lens. Have you ever had any negative attention from doing like so?

Fun - Thanks

Thanks.  I've taken pictures at dozens of events and thousands of people and I only had a person object once (that I recall).  Our laws in the USA favor the photographer in public places (where there's no expectation of privacy) and harassing the photographer could be considered a crime.  So about 99.99% of the time it's all good.

At non-events there may be more complaints, but it's rare.  There's a way to do it, so that people are not offended.  But that would take a long discussion and it depends on each other's cultures.

I think part of it, is not only our laws, but the use of cell phone cameras has made this quite common.  I should make it a point to take pictures of people taking pictures with their cell phones of other people.  Then you all would see.

In addition to cameras and cell phone cameras, we now have more police cams, door cams, and car cams.  A lot of this is what makes up YouTube videos.

It's important to understand your laws about this.  Secondly, learn to take legal pictures where people are comfortable with you doing it,  People still having feelings, regardless of the laws...just be respectful etc.

Zookeeper
1

Here's a neat photo I liked.  There were no elephants in this area,..only this zookeeper.  He was pretty cool about me taking his photo.  Look how great this looks at ISO6400.  I got enough depth of field too.

Auto Destruction

To raise income, people paid money to beat on this auto for a fund raiser. I assume it was ready for the crusher. It's not something I particularly like to watch, but it was a photo op.

Photo No. 1 - She was looking over the SUV, trying to decide where to start.

Photo No. 2 - I thought I would take a photo of it, before she did more damage.

Photo No. 3 - She picked her weapon of choice.

Photo No. 4 - She looked at this side.

Photo No. 5 - And banged down on it.

Photo No. 6 - Then she decided this might be a better side.

Photo No. 7 - She got ready to strike.

Photo No. 8 - Almost ready...at this point I could bear to watch this destruction any longer and left. It's interesting to see how some people think that this is good; that it is something fun. I knew it was probably ready for the crusher, but it's still hard for me to accept that. I guess everyone is different.

Wow...how neat...great photos.  Was it difficult getting close to them?  The male pheasant is especially colorful.
