Thinking of going from FF A7riv to XT 5
1

I used to be Fuji Xe2 and xt2, but the changed to Sony for resolution ie A7rii now A7riv, but with Fuji now having The higher resolution XT and XH 2 I’m considering going back to Fuji.

Reasons smaller more compact lens system p, the more simpler design and menus, more user friendly and as a lot say you want to use the Fuji system more.plus lots of others reasons.

I went mirrorless in the first place because of camera size got sick of the weight,

Im mainly a landscape photographer, bit of wildlife birds etc, portraits and plan to do a bit of macro, and sports, but landscape no 1

My original thoughts where to add the new A7rv to my kit and keep the A7riv as well and have a 2 camera system, with mainly GM lens.

I just sold my Leica Q2 as I found it too limiting as my second camera, loved the images etc but could not get used to just 28 mm lens if I only had one camera with me.

I do a bit of long exposure landscapes Nisi filters and will be continuing with that if not more.

What I would like to hear if anyone has tried both systems with the new Fuji 40 megapixel sensor.

I don’t do video but if I change I could go for 2 camera system XT5 and XH2 both with the bigger sensor.

How much DR will I lose with Fuji if any?

MF is not a option as just too slow for some of what I do.

I do shoot raw all the time and I use LR for processing.

I have done exactly what you have -- gone from Sony A7rIV to Fuji, in my case X-Pro3 and now X-T5 coming today. I think it all boils down to how much post-processing you are willing to do. I shoot RAW and found that LR does not do the best job, tried DxO, found it better, but for my own personal preferences have been using ON1 2023. If you are printing big or have a high ISO shot Topaz Denoise works very well. YMMV on which software you use, but with the new AI stuff out there you haven't lost much. All of this refers to printing large; if you are not printing large there will be little difference except the rIV images will look a little smoother, although that can difference be greatly diminished with software also.

,Had a play today with XT 5 and XH2, took some quick images and the feel of each camera, XT 5 very small in big hands and a pity a quip not available, XH2 just so different in the controls to what I’m use to in Sony A7riv.

Looking at my images taken I feel it would be a backward step going back to Fuji.

I think its a tough call, iq wise Fuji can definitely deliver from the X-H2/X-T5 problem will be premium zooms, in all honesty it feels as if it's the same on all systems!

Sony 24-70 GM ii looks cool but the lenses I really want on Sony are mostly Tamron, 20-40 2.8 is probably perfect fit for me, similarly I have a lot of respect for 70-180, the new 50-400 would also be on my priority list. So many good primes on e-mount too hard to go wrong and its the same with Fuji but zooms are still a little hit and miss but you do have the highly regarded 16-55 2.8, but is it small enough? 8-16 is very large and 10-24 is good but not phenomenal.

70-300 is great and compact ad 50-140 a competitive 70-200 alternative!

A7RV has the new menu system that you might feel more user friendly

A7RV has new pixel shift that does movement correction.

https://www.photonstophotos.net/Charts/PDR.htm They have data for X-H2 which is the same sensor as X-T5

Re: Thinking of going from FF A7riv to XT 5

I recently switched to the sony a7iv.  I love using fuji but the weight savings was not there for me.  My A7R2 is smaller and lighter then an X-h1 and the lenses i have on emount are smaller and lighter then the equivalent fujis.  In my mind a Fuji 56mm F1.2 is equivalent to a sony 85mm F1.8 for example.

Mind you, i have never used fancy AI software to sharpen or clean up noise so i was shooting F1.4 on fuji to keep ISO low.  On sony FF it doesnt bother me to stop down and have higher iso for certain shots.

When it comes to wildlife, this is maybe where i have issue with full frame.  Super telephotos for full frame are really big and heavy.  I compromise and bought the compact tamron 150-500mm F6.7 but really not super happy with the IQ at 500mm.   The Sony 200-600mm sounds like a terrific lens, but to big for me.  The fuji 100-400 could be terrific option here.

The X-T5 is about 100g lighter than the Sony A7IV but if you use the Fuji F2 lenses they are much lighter than the ones for Sony E-mount, I'm surprised. In the end you save a couple of hundred grams and it does make a difference, no?

And the Sony 85mm f1.8 is half the price of the Fuji 56mm F1.2. I wish I had seen you message earlier, I just bought a X-T5 2 days ago

But the X-T5 is more than $1,000 cheaper than the A7rIV - even when it's on sale.  That's assuming you would buy either camera brand new.

Interesting:

I thought Fujifilm was advertising the hx2s to have greater dynamic range than the xh2, weren't they? Especially given the lower base ISO of the xh2, it looks like nearly a stop advantage over the xh2s at base ISO.

Any thoughts on why?

Re: Thinking of going from FF A7riv to XT 5

Did you check the studio scene comparison tool? Although X-T5 is not available yet, X-H2 is.
As far as I can tell, the A7RIV image looks far more detailed and clean at every ISO value in pretty much most areas of that scene, although I found a few where X-T5 kind of matched it. I wonder how much post-processing in apps other than Lightroom it takes to make the X-T5 look as detailed, as some keep claiming here..
